Anyone know of anything up for rent, or know who I could contact to try and find a house to rent in Meridian...Ideally, looking for something on/near Dalewood Lake. Thanks

Do you like driving 30 minutes to run any type of errand that can't be handled at a Dollar General? If not, you don't want to live at Dalewood. Plus, even though you're outside the city limits the housing association restricts the use of firearms on your property, that's assuming you care what the housing association has to say on the matter.

Try www.ahrn.com, that's where my wife and I found our house. Listings there have to pass muster, so they're at least marginally credible.

militarybyowner.com is pretty good as well. I think the ahrn site is where we found ours...but it was listed there by a local realtor.

If one had boat, is the lake fun?

Of course. Although, living at Dalewood comes with some other fees you should know about beforehand. There are $600/yr association dues for each tenent or family, and a $50/mo charge for their managed septic systems. Thoses fees, as well as abiding by a set of rules, are required to remain a "member in good standing" and use the association's lake facilities and boat launches. If you opt out of the fees and rules you're not supposed to use their facilities or the lake. Even though it's a gated community, and even if you're Dalewood Lake's public enemy #1, it's not like they can deny you access to and from your property. That being said, I'm pretty sure they have one security patrol vehicle for the entire area who's occupant(s) are not the least bit concerned with sniffing out who should and should not be on the beach.

(Said fees may or may not be covered by your landlord if you rent, and the entire system is very loosely managed anyway.)

The gate procedures make life annoying for any friends who come to visit who aren't dalewood residents......that and it's out in the middle of nowhere, and most of the rental houses are ghetto. Yeah there are a few nice ones, but for the money, you can get a lot more house out in town, and within a couple minutes of civilization (if anywhere in Merids can be called that)

None of these people lived there. Whether you will like depends on what your priorities are. Is it vital to be a 5 minute drive from Rite Aid or Taco Bell? For me, no-- I bought my groceries at the commissary.

I liked it. There were a couple problems but its cool to jump off your lawn and swim across the lake and back for a workout. The houses really vary, so make sure you check out yours thoroughly before you sign. A "house at Dalewood" could be a trailer in the stagnant south end of the lake or a recently build sweet 4 bedroom house with a dock. We lit off fire works all the time and only had a problem once... but it was 3am and that party would have been broken up anyway. No issues afterward just a "quiet down" that night. Its not that hard to get friends in the gate, someone just has to be sober enough to answer the phone.

Any house on the lake should preferrably have an inoperative jet ski in the shed.....just sayin
