Looking for roommate - 10 min south of NAS JAX

I've had some luck with roommates from the base before, so I figured it might be worth putting this out here...

I'm looking for a roommate to split a 3 bedroom/2.5 bath townhouse in the Fleming Island Plantation, about 10 minutes south on US17 from NAS JAX. The quick lowdown is that I have a fully furnished room for $600/month + half utilities (negotiable). You would have your own room and bathroom, plus you can set up whatever you'd like in the third bedroom as it's been converted to an office/computer area. Amenities include two pool and recreation complexes (one that is right out the back door). If you might be interested in getting more details or perhaps taking a look at the place, please contact me either through here or at sgclem1029@gmail.com.

Also, I would appreciate some suggestions as to other sites or ways to post for a roommate at the base. I've done everything I can come up with, but I figure that some of you around here might have better ideas. Thank you!

Clem,
You asked for other ways to find roommates on base.... The flight surgery residents at NAS JAX hospital normally arrive in June and July each summer to start their residency and need a place to stay. They are usually O-2/O-3 types, so your rent is well within their BAH. I would like to think that is a roommate you could trust. If you make up a flyer or an email with the information, you might want to try the hospital and see if Mrs. Hossinger (I think she is an admin assistant (title: Residency Administrator???) that pretty much receives and cares for all the residents) would be willing to post your ad or make it available to incoming O's.

Or.....you could sell your town house and move in with me :p:p:p:p I am looking for a roommate too, and I live 7 min north of NAS JAX in a great house in Avondale...... That is, if you could manage living with a Coastie!:eek::eek::eek:

Your other option is to list on Craigslist.com, which is what I have been doing for the past 4 months looking for a roommate, and all I have found is WACKOS! I'd rather find a Navy O that I know where he works and I know he/she can meet rent than some local wacko through craigslist. If you find some other way of finding a roommate on NAS, let me know as well. Hope my info was helpful.

Another thought,

Have it posted on the student officer read board at VP30, on NAS Jacksonville. They have a constant influx of pilots/NFOs coming through, training is around 6 months, and a little under a third of them will stay in Jax for follow on orders. Probably just drop it off at the duty office and have ASDO post it.

That's a good idea. Hey, do you think it would be alright for me to do that as a Coastie? (Be serious, now!) I await your (hopefully not sarcastic) reply.... :icon_mi_1:icon_mi_1:icon_mi_1:icon_mi_1:icon_mi_1:icon_mi_1

I honestly don't see a problem with doing that...

Free Advertisement for Roomates

You can advertise here for roomates also as long as your active duty. I wrote a thread about the Automated Housing Referral Network for the military. The housing office at JAX refers new check-ins there.

Good point on AHRN, seeing as how they recently took over DOD Referral and revamped the website.

I still think that the read boards at the squadron are still one of the best places to go to.

Thats a funny picture! I always remember the IFR probe on the port side. Try W/C 13A or 130 if you are using OMA otherwise just give everything to 110 everyone else does.

I appreciate all of the insight...a few things based on what I've seen so far.

1) Selling and rooming elsewhere - would be a fantastic idea if not for how the market has tanked. At this point, there's a lot of places I'd consider moving (which probably hurts trying to attract people to this place), but until the market turns around in a year or two, that's unfortunately not a viable option.
2) Craigslist - you're right, majority of the folks on there are a little out there. Plus, it doesn't help that the vast majority want to be either Southside or the Beaches, and OP doesn't quite cut it.
3)AHRN - When I had originally called the housing office up there, that's where they pointed me. I then realized it was for full property rental and not renting out a room. Plus, to be clear, I am not on active duty myself - I'm an IT guy locally in JAX.

I'm definitely going to pursue some of the advice mentioned here, and I appreciate the help!

You can advertise for roommates on AHRN, but only if your active duty. You can also post in the base newspaper or on the bulletin board at the NEX $8 for 2 or 3 months I think. Oh yeah The Navy Campus building has a big bulletin board also by the personal property office and the little cafe.
