What does everyone think of ROTC? I orginally was going to apply for PLC but instead I'm leaning towards ROTC for a pilot slot. The classes on tactics, leadership, and hisotry are really appealing to me. I also think it will prepare me better for OCS. Any advice? Thanks!

Personally, i am going towards PLC. However NROTC is not bad either it is just as good, at the end it's all the same you get a comission. I do not think that you go to OCS after NROTC though.

You will attend OCS after your Junior year and TBS after commissioning. Most NROTC's have a bulldog prep course to get you in shape for OCS. Both are good programs!

By doing ROTC you'll get to do a "one shot one kill" with OCS, however, you won't really get the freedom associated with the PLC program. It's all personal preference, I suppose.

i was involved with ROTC at first then i quit because it didnt go to well with my school schedule and i wanted more freedom. so i decided to do PLC Combined and i liked that much more. because you have the freedom get your school work done and not worry about taking Naval Science courses or other requirements. your only requirement is to graduate.

Of course if you're interested in some classes. .at most colleges you can take Naval Science courses as a "civilian". .I was PLC and took a couple NROTC classes. I thought they were helpful. I know some things about ships and the Navy that most of my Marine counterparts don't (PLC types anyways). .

I guess the easy answer is that it all depends on where you go to school. Where I go, we have the Navy Battalion, made up of Navy Companies, with a separate Marine Platoon (I assume it's like that most places). Anyway, we have Battalion events on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (0600 and 0530). We have company events on Wednesday or Thursday afternoons (1600 or 1700). We also have Marine Plt PT Monday/Wednesday/Friday at 0545. Not to mention Semper Fi society meetings Wednesday at 1815. Plus, during football season, we work at all the football games (Friday night and all day Saturday)....

Write all that down on a weekly schedule, add in 15-18 hours of classes, plus work, plus family/friend time, plus study time, plus fun time...you can probably see where that is going. Anyway, that's what you possibly face if you go NROTC (Marine Option). If you go PLC, you stand the chance of not punishing yourself physically enough (or in the basic skills department) to really be ready for OCS. We do a lot of crap. But I feel pretty sure I'm ready for OCS, provided I don't get injured...again!

Good luck!
