I just spent 4 months at Miramar, # 1 base in the MC in my book. There's one reserve squadron out there, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 134 (VMFA-134). I'm not sure about flight time. Out
I did some research and found this website.Hopefully they won't decommision it.Also if the goverment sold Miramar it would just be one giant housing project.Who gets to fly the Gulfstreams. Are they reserve units and I bet they are a tough assignment to get.
I heard that 134 wants to go forward. Im not sure if the decommissioning is going to happen because VMFA-321 from Washington just decommissioned and send a few of their jets to 134.
As far as Miramar going bye-bye, they've been talking about that for a while. It wouldn't make sense, because they are in the process of retrofitting all of the old barracks and just got done with the BEQ/BOQ. With as much money as they are spending on that base, it wouldn't make sense to all of a sudden just close it.
If that happens, I know a lot of people are going to be pissed because most of the helicopters will go to Pendleton, the rest probably augment the two squadrons that are up at Edwards. As far as the jets, I've heard that they will either go to Twentynine Palms or Yuma. Either way they go, they will still be far from the paradise that is Southern California.
