Hey Marines, and advice for myself? I'm heading to San Diego Jan. 5th and just wanted some advice on anything to prepare myself or maybe something someone else took away from it all.
Thanks Happy 228th

Do your best. As sick as it may sound, I actually had fun at boot camp alot of the time. Just do your best, and get into it.
Semper Fi, and good luck.

Keep a positive attitue and remember, a lot of that stuff is just plain funny. The hardest part for me was trying to keep from laughing. Keep in mind, when times are tough, and everything is going wrong, thats how it's supposed to be. It took me a few weeks to realize that they are gonna yell and scream no matter what, and you're never gonna be able to do things on time...thats just how it is.

I'm with them. Be ready to do everything as fast as humanly possible for three months without taking a break. Don't worry, thousands of people do it every year.

When I went through boot camp, all of my DI's were Sgts. When I was at Miramar, I ran into one of them at the barber shop. We were both Staff Sergeants!

I had 5 SSgt's:
SDI SSgt Butler
SSgt Burrow
SSgt Cornwell
SSgt Maldonado
SSgt Ritchie (the hammer)

Haven't seen any of them since Dec 2 1994.

One more thing Nick, have as many people write you as possible. Mail is a huge moral booster!!...that and CHOW!!

Thanks for all the advice, I appreciate it. Hopefully it will pass quickly and I can keep hacking away at being an Officer.

Nah, Say he was an 03 and newly promoted Sgt. If I'm not mistaken Crowbar is a 06xx which promotes very fast. In the 03 field you can bet on staying a Sgt for 5+ years, at least thats how it was when I was a Sgt. So it's possible. Crowbar, were you promoted to SSgt the first time you were in the zone?

That sounds VERY likely E5B. We had a Sgt in my unit ('96-'01) that was a LCPL in the first Desert Storm. He was promoted last year. Although, he was a real piece of work.
