MECEP Aviation contract

Ladies/Gents,
I apologize if this has been asked and answered, but I'm looking for details on how MECEP's earn their aviation contracts.
I felt pretty embarrassed recently sitting on a MECEP board at the squadron and having no idea how the aviation assignment process is run.

Is is done pre or post bulldog? Before TBS?
Best advice on when to take the ASTB? Flight physical?

While I will be trying to contract some MOI's, i'd also like some perspective from those who have been/are going through the process.

You can do it any time before your senior year. I recommend doing it in the middle of your junior year. That way there is enough urgency in it to keep the staff's attention, but not so much that a hiccup will sink your ship.

Best advice on when to take the ASTB? Flight physical?

Take the ASTB whenever you're ready. I regard it mostly as an aptitude test that you can't really do highly targeted study for, but you can study and nail down the test format. You'll find tons of study aids and recommendations here.

For the flight physical, you need to have a current one before you submit your aviation contract package. I recommend the summer before your junior year (depending on when your birthday is as well). That way there is plenty of time for waivers and for medical to lose your paperwork which WILL HAPPEN. A tip for the distant future, have another flight physical done that won't expire during TBS. The last thing you want is to have to go through the shit-show of your company scheduling you a flight physical which they will if yours isn't current.
