Just wondering if any of you other MECEP guys out there went to the prep school. I am just hoping to get some good 'real' info on it. All I have heard from the rumors is that it is a big 'thrash session' ... not that it matters ..hah.. anyways.. thanks for any info

I attend MECEP Prep in 2001; feel free to PM me with your questions.

Essentially, it is a semester of undergraduate "core" courses (math, English, physical sciences, and history) crammed into about 7 weeks of instruction. The days are long, and the tempo high, but it is not that bad.

Basically, it is a great refresher if you have been out of school for a while, and helps to reinforce study habits.

Pack some extra patience in your seabag...

I went in 2002 and ditto on what KBay said. What I hated about Prep was that I had tried for years to finally get into the program and was thrilled that I finally made it. Not everybody had that attitude. We had way too many in our class who thought they were better than everybody else and the Marine Corps was wasting their time by making them go. The first few days really grated on me because nobody knew anybody and it seemed like a contest to see who could say "Ooh rah" and "Good to go" and "Outstanding" more than anybody else. Everybody wanted to tell their sea stories and verbalize their resume/service record to anybody else who would listen. I had the fortunate pleasure of going with another Marine I worked in the fleet with, so the two of us just sat back and enjoyed the show.

Anyway, Prep was a pain in the balls, but I'm glad I did it. It was my first exposure to Calculus, which made my first year at college easier. I met plenty of people there who I saw again at OCS. In fact, our plt started with 23 MECEPS out of 36 in the platoon and with only about 3 exceptions I knew all of them from Prep.

Just be prepared, the XO there likes to give these looooooooooong talks every afternoon about how endurance is the hallmark of a Marine Corps Officer. Loooooooooooooooooooooong. You'll build up endurance just listening to them.....

Hey thanks for the info guys. I will know at 4 other marines so hopefully the whole 'prove yourself' thing will not have to apply. I am looking forward to it just to stop treading water and get into the program. I have been out of college for 4 yrs now and am glad to get a refresher. Myself and anothe friend of mine who got accepted have been lifting weights and running veryday because we are so bored waiting to go. Anything to worry about before going?? did you all run alot of boots and utes?? probably depends on the instructors i guess... I have heard to go there learn what you can but not try to kill yourself studying and such .. just pass everything and try to enjoy it.. any comments on those words of wizdom?? anyway.. im just bored of waiting and cant wait to get to prep school and on to college.. thanks and Sepmer Fi
