Mechanical Comprehension Portion

So I've been using both the ARCO book and the Cliffs TestPrep book, and their respective sections on mechanical comprehension problems are quite different. Does anyone know which book most nearly simulates the problems on the test? I've already taken the test once and it seems to me that a lot of the mechanical comprehension material in the Cliffs book wasn't on the test. The material in the Cliffs book seems way more intense, and way more in-depth. If anyone knows, it would save me a lot of time an energy. Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how to better prepare for this section? (Aside from the ARCO book and the marine gouge) I'm taking the test for the second time in a few weeks, and I'm not in the mood for any surprises this time around you know what I mean? Thanks everyone.

I am not sure, but it sounds like you already know the answer to your question.

ARCO book for spatial apperception only, marine gouge for mechanical comp. Be sure to understand how each simple machine's 'mechanical advantage' works and how to calculate it, I'm not a tech major and that helped me out BIG TIME on that part, it's in the gouge. Good luck, hope this helps.

I looked at a lot of different things when I was studying for it. None of the books were much like the real test, from what I remember. The Marine gouge was the best.

I'd suggest that you be sure that you know the following:

* how to find mechanical advantage for pulleys and such
* how to use Ohm's law in simple circuits (V=IR)
* the relationship between pressure and velocity in fluids flowing through a pipe
* what happens when gears turn (gears of different sizes, etc.)

I believe there is an ARCO book specifically for mechanical aptitude tests. 90% of the book will be irrelevant, but there may be some good stuff in there. Check your local library.
