What BRAC list? There's nothing official because there is no list yet. SECDEF's recommendations to Congress for installation closures aren't even due until May of next year (2005). We JUST got the initial BRAC data call done a couple weeks ago. There's a long way to go before this list comes out.

The list I saw was from Steven A. Cantrell, the Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Defense (Intelligence Oversight). It is the Base Closure Proposal for 2005 list. Other bases on the list for the Marine Corps are the Logistics Bases at Albany, Ga and Barstow, CA; the Mountain Warfare School in CA; the Reserve Support Unit, Kansas City; and MCRD, San Diego.

There's another thread on this topic, "Miramar to Close." started by 46Driver. He saw the same list I did.

Come on now Dave...you've been with us long enough to know there aren't too many times that I'm NOT cranky. Besides, I've gotta stop these rumors before they get out of hand. Man, I can't stand bogus info!

I will say what I said in the other thread, THERE IS NO OFFICIAL LIST YET!!! While I am sure that some people have seen proposals (I would not be suprised to see Miramar on it) there will not be an official list until later.

That's all I was asking. I saw Miramar on the "Proposed" list and was asking anyone if they had information. Not looking to start rumors, just asking clarification so that a rumor doesn't get started. I was certainly not looking to get lectured about how these things are only finalized by Congress or the President.

Thanks for the clear and concise answer, Flash.

Not sure how much more clear and concise I could have put it.

Suffice it to say that I got an answer to my question. I appreciate the info. Thanks to all who responded.

And I promise I wasn't trying to make anyone cranky about this subject.
