Moral Waiver for OCS

Hello everyone and thanks for taking time to read my post.

So right now I'm a senior at an Ivy League school graduating with honors this Spring with a degree in Political Science. I also received a 58 on my ASTB. When I was 18 I got a DUI. It was stupid and there's no excuse for my decision to get behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated, but since then I've been a stand-up student and didn't have a sip of alcohol again until I turned 21. My question is whether or not I will be able to get a moral waiver for my DUI?

As a side note I'm also an Eagle Scout and speak Arabic. Thanks for your help!

Don't have any personal experience but there were at least five people in my OCS class that had waivers for different alcohol related issues. It's a black mark but you won't know if you don't apply and it seems you have a pretty good package. But like I pointed out there were people that recently had that type of waiver go through OCS.

The waiver itself shouldn't be an issue as long as there is nothing else, now how the board views it is another issue, if you are going for aviation where the #1 focus is the ASTB then if your PFAR and FOFAR scores are good you should have no issues, if you are going for anything else well you are going to be up against many others that have no issues, so that DUI might make you an easy "no" for the board.

FYI, it isn't just viewed as one mistake, it is 2 mistakes #1 you were drinking underage, #2 after making mistake #1 you made the choice to get behind the wheel causing the second mistake.

A guy I went through OCS with had to go through some alcohol rehab program in between OCS and commissioning before they would give him his NAMI letter due to a string of alcohol related incidents when he was younger (including a charges dropped DUI). So if you are going aviation, you may have to do something similar if there is anything else in your history alcohol related.

Shouldn't be an issue. Knew more than one person at OCS with a DUI on the record. I myself had a minor in possession ticket on record.

At OCS they will make you do a psych eval. First someone from your class team will call you in and ask you a few questions about your current and past alcohol use. Then, you'll have a formal appointment with a psychologist and they'll do the same thing.

aviation is a lot more forgiving on alcohol incidents than other designators, a good score will get your foot into OCS, other designators often look for any reason to turn a guy away.

Got it. Makes sense as all the examples I know are indeed aviation.
