Motivational Statement, Officer Interview and SWO vs. Supply Questions?

I currently am applying for Navy OCS and trying to go SWO. I plan on having my packet ready for the March board; any help would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of questions:
I am trying to set up an officer interview with a retired Naval officer through my father’s Retired Military Officers Chapter, how much validity and help would this bring to my packet, I know they would prefer an active duty officer? Is there any forms or formats that I need for the interview?

I also am trying to complete my motivational statement, does anyone have any input or suggestions of what I should include and what they are looking for in this statement? I started writing it today and ended up 300 words over the 400 word limit, so I am trying to cut it back to the most crucial and important things they would like for me to touch on.

Does anyone have an estimate of how many people will be applying for Navy OCS this coming March, from previous boards how many people roughly apply each month and how many of those usually go SWO and how many go Supply? I graduated last semester with a bachelor’s degree in business management, would my chances of being accepted be better with SWO or Supply, I would be willing to give up SWO for Supply if it increased my chances of being accepted?

Thank you for your help.

ummm, probably won't help a lot seeing as how there is no such thing as a Navy Colonel. Perhaps you could seek out an exlemplary worded letter from the Easter Bunny as well.

oops, sorry- my bad. I didn't see that you wanted to be a SWO. In that case a letter from the retired Navy Colonel would be perfect!

They want to know why/how the Navy will benefit from having you as an officer. They don't care that you've dreamed of being SWO since you could crawl. Why should you be chosen? How will they benefit? Be direct and not fluffy; they don't need bs.

I don't believe your degree is going to effect your selection, though gpa might. Concentrate on your ASTB-esque exam. I took the ASTB, I'm not sure what you take, but you need competitive scores. I graduated with a BA in biblical studies and am pro-rec SNA.

It seems that the boards are backed up. If you want in the March board, and it isn't already full, you'll want to have your app in before the 15th of this month. You should have it in your OR's hands this week...like, tomorrow. Get the process rolling and bring in the Letter's of Recommendation, etc. before the end of the week.

Start PT'ing if you haven't already. You will have to take the PRT at some point. navy-prt.com Also, search the past threads, there is plenty more information pertaining to your questions. Good luck.
