Motorcycle in API

My motorcycle finally showed up from being shipped and I was just curious about any requirements for taking it on base. Obviously a set of tags and a license, but is there anything else? I took a private saftey course already and I know that they offer them on base too, is it required or just a good idea? Also, I'm currently in A-pool, anyone know if I need to/should ORM it?

I think the safety course is required but it depends on if the one that you took is close enough to the one thats offered...

I was told that to ride my motorcycle on the local AFB I need to have a Motorcycle Foundation Safety Course Card and to wear contrasting colors from the bike. At night a reflective safety vest is required in addition. Keep in mind these are Air Force regulations and may differ from the Navy's.

I think thats mostly what the Navy wants to. I'm looking into it more from more appropriate resources.

Riding course just has to be MSF approved I think ... could be wrong though. If you are just starting out riding it's a great course anyway (also, take it on base and it's FREE!!).

For the guys who ride, what jackets do you wear? (pics would be great) I hate the gay road guard vest, but haven't spotted anything that looks much better on a cruiser.

Do a search. Someone posted a link on here not too long ago to a company that makes some nice jackets that meet the reflective safety regs. They're expensive, but you don't have to wear the cheesey orange vest.

Do you guys see the homeless sitting in the medians wearing the orange reflective vests and holding up their signs? I always wondered who gave them the vests, now I think I know.

Follow OPNAV 5100 to the letter, their serious about line of duty violations and they WILL UCMJ you if you're caught without all the PPE down there... 100% of the time. Familiarize yourself with CNATRA's order too... basically, Helmet, eye protection, long sleeves (less than a leather jacket you're crazy anyway), gloves, pants, boots, and a orange jacket (the Icon Milspec isn't to bad, and only 50 bucks). Don't be the guy thats caught off base without all the gear... you'll need a base riding course to ride on base too...
I understand that TRACOM isn't like the real world, but it ain't like that in the fleet WRT wearing your gear off-base. I know they threaten line of duty implications if you get hurt, but there is Navy legal precedent that supports the rider in that case. This was extensively covered in Legal O school. Just putting it out there for everyone's future reference.

Take it from a guy who had an accident...there will be a line of duty investigation. Just don't ride w/o your PPE...anywhere, any time.

What kind of bike do you have? If you have a sportbike, check out www.jenningsgp.com. That's a track about 2.5 hours east of here. After a track day or two, you just won't want to ride on the street anymore.

I've seen a few people around with those. They're pretty darn slick. I didn't know who made them or where to get them. I do now. I think a portion of my next paycheck is going towards that. Thanks!

Edit - Good price too. $40 is pretty comparable to other sturdy vests I've been looking at.
