Moving to Pendleton - best ways to find a place?

I just got orders to 3/1, and am looking for a place in San Clemente. How did you all go about finding a place to stay at your first duty station? Ideally, a few of us Lts want to find a place on or near the beach that we can pay for with our combined BAH.
Cheers,
Bill

Craigslist is your friend, we are currently looking for a new place and we just keep looking on there and have found some good leads. Also militarybyowner.com is a good source as well. We used a property manager out here I'll track down her number for you, she is good to go. Helped us out a lot and is very laid back. PM me and I'll get you her number.

I used www.militarybyowner.com My wife is active duty USAF and I am USN. We were able to find a house in between the two bases within our BAH. Most of the people on the website are military in one way or another and want to rent to other military personnel.

Good luck in your search.

I used to live in Carlsbad, had a lot of friends in San Clemente. I even spent a little bit time with 3/1 during Phantom Fury/ Al Fajr. If you want a nice place on or near the beach, I would go to the pier area, park your car, and start walking with a notepad and your cell phone. A lot of places don't list or advertise because, well, they don't really have to. You can find some SICK places down there. PS--I hate you for going to Pendleton while I am stuck here in Cheerless Point.

That's no joke. Back when you got full per diem for the Phrog FRS in Pendleton, I had 3 buddies that rented a restored victorian house (more mansion really) that was on the beach in Carlsbad. Rent was $9K/month - and the Marine Corps picked up the tab (they each rated $99/day at the time).
