MSG as a Marine Officer

pharaelga

Constantly lost in the sauce....
The application process is simplified on the enlisted side of the house and is readily accessible. What I haven't heard much about is how do Marine officers go about becoming MSG commanders? Any topics on this seem to be non-existent, let alone me wondering about it being a non-disassociated flight tour. Is it very rare to get? I know its a LONG way away, I'm just curious as to if anybody had any insight or info on it.

Having worked with a few Marines coming from or going to MSG duty, the officer presence is pretty limited. The senior Marine at an embassy is usually a senior SNCO and the officers from the company headquarters usually only get out to each embassy a few times a year for inspections, etc. The company staff has responsibility for 15-20 embassy detachments and there are only a handfull (2-5) Officers per company. If you don't have a family and love to travel around the world it's a great gig but is pretty much an I&I tour with longer plane rides and few days at each embassy.
