MSUGTO Intro, help needed

Good afternoon ladies & gents,

I wanted to introduce myself after quite a bit of lurking around here and picking up on the helpful gouge. I've graduated from Midwestern State University in December of 2006 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Since then I?ve worked in customer service and have switched over the accounting field which I haven?t exactly fell in love with but it is a job and I'm thankful for that.

I do have quite a dilemma on my hands and any input would be tremendously appreciated. First, let me start by saying that being a Naval Aviator is something that I've wanted to be since an early age. I was able to get my application together and was submitted for the May board earlier this year. Word from my OR was that my package was good to go for the board only to find out after the board met that, my "package didn't make it to the board". I was able to get it in for the June board though. My three MOS choices for this board were AMDO, SWO then Supply. The results of that board were that I was selected as an alternate for AMDO. I was a bit disappointed that I was not selected for AMDO but was selected as an alternate, better than nothing I suppose.

My understanding from my OR is that I would have to wait six months before I could reapply for OCS or I could change at least one of my MOS selections and/or my motivational statement and submit it for the next board. Being that I'm eager to head to Newport, I rewrote my moto statement and changed my MOS selections to AMDO, SWO and NFO. With these changes I was told that I could reapply for the June board. Again, my application ?didn?t make it to the board? but was assured that it was squared away for the August board.

I had called my OR yesterday around noon to see if the results were out yet for the board. He told me that he would check and call me back. So a few hours later, I get an email that he had forwarded to me that was from an individual that was above him in the recruiting district saying how my package was ineligible for the August board. I?m not clear on the reason as to why to why it was ineligible but only that I was not even considered for the August board.

After receiving the email, I've tried to get a hold of my OR to figure out what I need to do in order to get to OCS. I had called him yesterday around 5 and this morning around 10 and neither were answered or returned and the last next message I had received from him was saying that my local recruiter can help me out with my questions. What would you do in my situation? Who would you contact? The email that was forwarded to me had my OR's boss's contact info. Would you contact that individual and skip over my OR? I'd rather do that as a last resort in order to respect the chain of command. I'm not sure what step I should take next but I look forward to hearing your advice. Feel free to PM me if you would like. Folks, I'm not losing this fight, I will serve our Country.

Fleens? You're not Fleens!
I would be persistent contact your OR, and I would give him a week to get back to you. After that, THEN contact his CO. I had this experience to a minor extent and have heard about it happening widely with others that they are not taken seriously by their recruiter until pro-rec time--which is somewhat understandable. They also want to see that you are serious about the Navy and not wasting their time.

Also on another unrelated note, there are plenty of ladies on this board too.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll not bug him until next Monday and we'll see what happens.

I apologize for my gender oversight, corrections have been made.

Good afternoon ladies & gents,

After receiving the email, I've tried to get a hold of my OR to figure out what I need to do in order to get to OCS. Not getting a call back in that timeframe is nothing to be concerned about. The recruiters aren't running a customer service operation that guarantees an immediate call-back no matter how important it is to you and they do have other commitments as part of the job that result in being "incommunicado" for lengthy periods of time.

Sometimes a two pronged strategy of backing up calls with email helps when they are task-saturated. Some folks can dash off emails while on the phone and push off what they think is going to be a lengthy call that they can't afford at that time. Another technique is to transfer to an operator or whatever it takes to get a live person who knows whether the OR is even in the office. They do leave the office for recruiting sweeps at local schools, etc. or it could be an emergency/regular leave explanation.

Fact of life: Bottomline, with this economy, it's a seller's market and ORs are going to focus on top candidates that meet the needs of the Navy with little or no waivers/extra work required.

Sounds good to me. I figured with the board results being released this time of the month he'd be pretty busy any how. I'm concerned about the fact that my package was ineligible for the board and I would like some info from him on what I need to do so that I would be eligible to be seen by a board again.
