Ok. Here's my situation. I'm a Junior studying MIS. I want to go Marine Aviation. If I want to be a pilot I'll have to get PRK. That's another thing to think about in itselft.

I know that when I am through with the Corps then I can shoot for an airline job. My question is really based on other aviation industry jobs besides pilot. What would a former Marine Corps Pilot/NFO be offered with a degree in MIS? I am thinking that a lot of the major aviation producers would look into a candidate like this. I would love to be able to work for an Aerospace/Aviation company using the skills I learned in college, and the ones I learned in the Corps. Again, I know that this is just me thinking way ahead, but I just wanted to see what you guys thought. This really isn't a question as much as it is your opinion as to what jobs are out there. Thanks very much for your time.
God Bless.

I graduated from the U of A in May 2002 with an MIS degree. I've only been out a year and I hardly use any of my MIS skills a web developer. It's still technology but definitely NOT systems analysis and design. Nobody I was in MIS with really does any actual MIS stuff after they graduated either. So think of your MIS degree as only relevant to getting you into the Corps. By the time you are ready to transition out, you won't remember a damn thing they tought you and what you will know (aviation) will be applicable to all kinds of aviation-related fields in the civilian market.

Besides, by the time your commmitment is up you could very well have an advanced degree anyway.

As far as specifics regarding pay, there is no way to tell unless your crystal ball can look 10 years into the future.

Good luck with your desire to become a Marine Aviator and don't sweat the small stuff. Just cross that bridge when you come to it.

Your degree isn't as important as how well you do. Major in something that you enjoy. As long as your GPA is good you will be attractive to the Corps and any other military or civilian organization for that matter.

I started out with an MIS degree in college but changed. I"m not sure about the Areospace industry, but I had alot of friends that went into the Financial industry with MIS.
