Hello to all. I edited this down to just say hi instead of asking what my chances were after doing some research on this site.

This site was helpful in guiding me on my path to OCS. There is some good info here.

I am 40 years old, prior enlisted, trying to get back in.

I will let you all know what happens.

Thanks again for having this site. It is useful and fun to read!

What are you trying to do in the Navy? If you're shooting for aviation then you might be just out of luck because of your age, regardless of prior service time.
(Any actual aviator, please correct me if I'm wrong).
Even in most other communities, the cut off age is around 35 I believe. I do know of this Chief who went to Nursing Corp as an officer at age 37. Sorry, wish I could be more help.

Sorry, I should have stated Intelligence Officer. That is the only thing open due to my age (they accept up to 41).

Hmmm,
I was just talking to placement officer (my old class officer) and I'm told you have to be commissioned by 35 for any non flying community to take you (INTEL/INFO OPS/CRYPIES). Best thing to do would be to talk to an officer recruiter. All the best my friend.

+1 Just because I think it is really awesome at your age to be doing what you are doing!

Welcome to the site!

Thanks again all. 41 is the cutoff according to my recruiter and what I read in her book for the various programs. I'm just glad I don't have to go back in as a Nuke.

I am graduating in August from Thomas Edison State College and already took the ASTB (65, 8,7,8). My next step is the physical and the PRT. Running is killing me as well as situps and pushups. One day at a time!

42 is the cutoff for Intelligence for DIRCOM (DCO) reserve and OCS programs. Your recruiter may be saying 41 because of the time to get everything together. See Program Authorization 107A (3)(f) (OCT 08). Of course, you cannot have reached your 42nd birthday by the time of commissioning, so that may also be why she is saying 41.

This site has also been invaluable for my preparation. I am in the midst of the DIRCOM process for Navy Reserve Intelligence myself.

Can you tell me a little about the DIRCOM? Is this a better option? Do you plan on going into the reserves then going active? Thanks.
