Mystery Waiver

OK...So today I got a "mystery waiver" from my SPC. It had to do with my sitting height, so I was a little confused. My sitting height is 39" and the max, according to the NOMI website is 41". The waiver said that flight in the jet trainer "MAY" be dangerous so I'm not sure what to expect at my NAMI physical when I check into API.

I did a search and there were tons of posts on anthro issues. I just don't see how there are 6'5 dudes out there flying jets and I'm 6'3 w/a sitting height that is supposedly within regs, and I get a "waiver"?

Any input would be great.

could be the @ss to knee measurement. Really long legs are bad if you eject. When you get to NAMI they can tel you for sure

Here's the deal. Seats (or cockpits for that matter) have absolute limits beyond which one would be disquallified, then they have a set a preferred limits. If you're out of the preferred limits, you sign a waiver, which is really just you acknowledging the possibility that you may stand a greater chance of experiencing a less than textbook ejection sequence. The GRUEA-8 seat in the Prowler has an upper and lower weight range (which I happen to be just under). If you're too heavy, then your zero/zero chances are diminished, but if you're too light, then the forces will be more severe. Botom line, sign the waiver and suck it up to the cost of doing the nation's business.

Good times,

Brett

There’s definitely something different about the Prowler seat. I’ve seen a lot of dudes that are D’qued from the Prowler, but eligible for everything else. The individual that comes to mind posts here time to time, but he stands around 69”, so it’s got to be the T-rex syndrome. Must be little nubby arms or something.

Just don’t be the guy that takes it on his own to get measured with the hopes of D’queing from Prowlers. A lot of higher ups got pretty pissed about a few that did that – and they will slam your ass.

Especially when doing so gets you anthro'd out of the aircraft you currently fly . . .

Thanks for the info gentlemen. I guess we'll just see what they tell me down in Florida.

I'm currently sitting in my boxed up living room waiting for the movers to pick up my stuff for the move down to P'cola. FEELS GOOD!!

Don't get me started. There was this Marine chick in Whidbey who thought the world owed her Hornets, so she tactfully developed a "functional reach" problem.

I'm 69" and was DQ'd from Prowlers... initially. Thing is if you're a FO, they'll make you get remeasured again and again if that happens... they're not going to jut send everyone Strike/Fighter now that the S-3 slots are gone.

Waiver for T-45

Is there a waiver for SNA for the T-45 up to 41" or is it automatic NPQ from T-45's if you have a seated height over 38.5?

Funny thing....They remeasured me here at NOMI and my sitting height was 37.5. It's painful when my spine shrinks 2 inches over night.

Also I thought I would mention my blood pressure spiking up to an ungodly number every time I get the BP cuff on my arm. I took the machine away from the Corpsman and just kept retaking it untill my numbers came down...it was pretty funny.

That happend to me during my first physical ...... it was like 180/110 or something ridicuouls like that. The corpsman said ... laughing ...... "well .. .you should be dead or dying right now .... or the machine has crapped out". Needless to say he took it manually and it was fine. It happens.

Peace,

I'm currently applying to Marine air. My butt to knee measurement is just barely long enough to make it. I'm only 65". Am i too short for t-45's? And will i need a waiver for my midget legs?

Not surprised. I had a medical appointment like 15min after the Nav test in API, and they had to remeasure me for that. I wonder why it was so high . . . :D

Nittany,
GOD I hated that test!!!!!!!!!!! And suprisingly enough I ended up gettin a 92 on it. Don't know how tha happend but needless to say I almost **** myself.

Gringo,
I dunno. They have a NACES sheet. They put all your measurments into this computer program and it will say what you are and are not able to fit in. I'm 64" and can fly T-45s. Someone could be taller than me but have stubby arms or something and not fit. And as far as I know ... if you don't qualify to fit in a aircraft you can't get a waiver for it ... but someone may care to elaborate on this. I had a LOT of problems with my measurements up untill this point in training and I'm sure I'm still gonna have em. They always have to remeasure something ......

Peace,
