Navy Flyers Creed

statesman

Shut up woman... get on my horse.
pilot
I recently came into possession of a document which was given to my great grandmother from my grandfather around the time he received his Wings of Gold.

At the top is a picture of a pilot standing on what looks to be a Hellcat. Just below the picture is written:

A Navy Flyer's Creed
I am a United States Navy flyer. My countrymen built the best airplane in the world and entrusted it to me. They trained me to fly it. I will use it to the absolute limit of my power. With my fellow pilots, air crews, and deck crews, my plane and I will do anything necessary to carry out our tremendous responsibilities. i will always remember we are part of an unbeatable combat team - the United States Navy. When the going is fast and rough, I will not falter. I will be uncompromising in every blow I strike. I will be humble in victory. I am a United States Navy flyer. I have dedicated myself to my country, with its many millions of all races, colors, and creeds. They and their way of life are worth of my greatest protective effort. I ask the help of God in making that effort great enough.

at the bottom are the wings of gold.

I Googled 'Navy Flyers Creed' and found a few references, but couldn't find much history. Mostly products.

Does anyone have any insight as to where this document came from? Is this something that was given at graduation from flight school? Is it still given at flight school?

Other than the questions I have, I just thought it was fairly fascinating and thought I would share.

I don't have any history for you, but the Flyer's Creed is painted in one of the P-Ways in the NASC building in Pensacola. That's the first time I had seen it anywhere.

I found this yesterday and thought I'd share. Last line really drives it home.
