Navy Surface SAR Swimmer question

Can anyone help me clarify whether depth perception is a requirement for SURFACE swimmers? I know it is for aviation SAR swimmers but can't find exact guidelines for surface. Thanks in advance!

I admit to not really knowing what a "Surface Swimmer" is…is it a ship's SAR swimmer rather than one assigned to a helo squadron? Can't imagine the quals/requirements are much different…but I don't know.

But as others have said…this is a "secondary qual/NEC"…in addition to your real rating/NECs.

Yes, surface swimmers have a full-time rating and are basically on-call for a MOB or equipment in the water. They deploy off of j-bar davits and RHIB boats. My command plans on sending me in November and this is the only potential thing holding me back.
