Navy -vs- Marine flight contracts

I've heard that the only service to offer flight contracts where you will deffinetly fly is the Marine Corps. Is that true?

I'm trying for a Marine contract, but I was just curious.

I recieved a flight contract with the Navy (Navy-Marine Corps) and all I have done since is fly. Not really sure what you are asking, if you are just asking about flight contracts then yes you can get them through the Navy or Marine Corps. Not entirely sure about Air Farce, will let someone else chime in on that.

That is not true. Navy OCS has a similar offer.

I think what you are talking about is the guaranteed flight contract. It pretty much says that if you get accepted, and successfully complete OCS, TBS, flight school you will have a seat waiting for you in the fleet. I don't really know how this differs from what the Navy has to offer, but its what I signed 3 years back or so. Good luck.

Start thinking "but Devil Dog, Yut Yut!". I think the comment was addressing the fact that there are more differences between the Navy and the USMC than just TBS. Obviously a lot of out of context going on...

How so? Navy OCS guys contract for a specific designator (not just pilot/nfo), go to OCS, and barring NAMI-WHAMMY they get a slot in flight school.

I dunno....it's just your statement was very broad and generic.

It just sounded like you were saying Navy and Marine aviation is the same, except as a Navy pilot you don't go to TBS. In that regard I couldn't disagree more.

I will, however, agree that once you arrive at API, up until you get winged, it's the same deal. But before that, and after that... not so much.

Seeing as you're a high school senior, are you referring to NROTC? I know the Marines offer flight contracts for Marine-option Midshipmen. In this regards, the Navy does not. This is NROTC specific, as obviously they do flight "contracts" through OCS/BDCP. In NROTC, you request aviation - sometimes they say yes, sometimes SWO :icon_tong.

My public profile hasn't been updated in quite a while... I'm actualy a sophomore at Mercyhurt College in PA, I'm hopefuly contracting for SNA in the USMC on the 27th, pending a good PFT score. I was just wondering what the navy offered as I have been told many different things. Are you from Maine? As you can probably tell from my tag that's my homestate.

Just curious, but if you joined in February as a high school senior, how are you a college sophomore now? Did you have a ton of AP credits or something?

Kind of, I took classes at local state colleges as a highschool senior, and graduated high school with 14 credits. Here at Mercyhurst we have a trimester system that alows people to carry more classes, so this trimester I am taking 13 credits, and will be taking a 3 credit CLEP test in a couple of weeks. So I am not quite a sophomore yet, but I will be in three weeks when this term ends. I graduated high school in 2007 and I'll be graduating college in 2010.
