So, I took the path less traveled and left the enlisted ranks after 6 years 11 months in order to become an officer. I am attending college full time and plan on graduating in a little over a year. I was planning on doing nothing with the Navy until I graduated, but now I have heard about the BDCP program. I am shocked that I have never heard of this program until now, but I have to say Im really excitied. I contacted the "officer" recruiter office today and I am suppose to get a phone call tomorrow. Is all this as simple as it sounds......go to school fulltime, get paid, graduate, go to OCS, and fly jets instead of a buffer!!! I have great evals, and officers that are willing to write me great recommendations, so what's the catch. You'll have to exuse me for being a little paranoid, but so many lies handed to me as a blue shirt will have me skepical of everythng until I am in my grave. I will read through all the post and hopefully find my answers, but in the mean time write back. By the way what the difference between 0-1 pay and 0-1E pay? One other thing. When I was enlisted I attempted STA-21 but did'nt cut the SAT score on the math portion. Are there still SAT requirement when applying for the BDCP?

at what point in the process are you required to take the test

Taking the test is basically the first thing you do. After that, if you score high enough, you do your officer packet. The packet includes your application, your test scores, college information, LORs, references, and some other stuff that your recruiter will help you out with.

I am in the BDCP and so far it is as good as it sounds. You need to keep in contact with your recruiter twice a month, take the PFA once every 6 months, keep your GPA above a 2.7, take the classes you said you would take, and stay out of trouble. Other than that, just sit back and collect the checks until OCS.

Talked to recruiter/follow up Questions

I just got back from the recruiter and everything went as this website described it. One question that I could't get answered is; does everyone get get paid E-3 while in school, even if you were prior enlisted as an E-5 or E-6?

I can't speak specifically for priors, but everyone else starts out at E-3 with the opportunity to advance by making Dean's List two semester consecutively and also by referring someone to BDCP and them getting final select. This affords the opportunity to make E-5 prior to graduating.

Now if you had already made Dean's List 2 semesters in a row prior to being accepted to BDCP does that count for promotion?

My recruiter told me no, it only counts after you have been contracted. I had to do it another two times to bump to E-4, not a huge difference but the little extra money helps the beer fund. On a side note I cant find a single person who is interested and qualifies for the program. Everyone at my school goes Army. Looks like I wont see the E-5 pay till OCS.

my school is either army or air force(both ROTC's on campus). Not in BDCP but I am the odd one going to Navy with anyone going to the military in my classes

My school was the same way. However, you can generate interest in the program that you've selected by talking to others and by letting them know how good a deal you're getting. During the time I was BDCP, there were about 7 of us going Navy. We were definitely the minority but there is always someone who's interested....

I know we're not recruiters, but if you want the advance you'll need to earn it (or at least harrass someone who's applying already!)

P.S. - Stay away from the Amway tactics....
