Newly Sworn In - Commitment/Service Agreement Question

Good morning all,

Proud to say that I swore into the Navy yesterday! Going SNA, starting OCS in a few weeks. I've spent the last hour looking for an answer here on AW, but can't get recent information for my question. My recruiting office must not be so familiar with aviation candidates, since they couldn't confirm answers...

Here it goes:

My Aviation Candidate Program Service Agreement states: "Upon acceptance of a commission, I shall be required to serve at least 8 years as an Officer, of which 8 years after designation as an Aviation Officer must be on active duty." <-- This is wings +8, correct?

However, my Enlistment Document states that I am enlisting in the Navy, with a 4 year AD commitment, and a 4 year Reserve component. I presume this is the more general document that could keep me for 4 years AD, and 4 years reserve, should I attrite from OCS/flight school or elsewhere for whatever reason. If this is the case, does the aviation commitment of wings +8 not have a reserve component (I would be fulfilling 8-10 years AD)?

Just trying to understand the print here! Thank you for your help!

Your pre wings commitment is 4yrs AD and 4 reserve. Once you wing, an 8 year AD commitment is slapped on overlapping that (i.e. Serving concurrently).

Thank you, Zippy. So the pre-wings AD commitment is fulfilled concurrently with my aviation AD commitment. Do you know if the reserve component is fulfilled concurrently in the same manner?

Correct. Your initial 4+4 is the minimum. You could do 8 AD and be good, or 6+2. If you attrite in flight school and don't get redesignated AD and you haven't finished your four years AD the commitment would be x completed plus y remaining.

Your AD pre-wings time and then your AD post wing 8 will reach past your 4+4.

I'm using the search bar but able to find an answer... what is the commitment for different designators? Specifically SWO, but interested in knowing others. I thought they were all 6 years but I may have just made that up.
