Are Marine Corps NFO slots hard to come by? Is their usually a lot of guys going out for those slots? Pretty competitive to get?

Also, I while back some Navy nfo posted a website of his with pictures from training. Anyone have that site?

Thanks.

I just got done with PLC Jr's, 2nd increment. My platoon at OCS consisted of about 50 aviation, 3 or 4 NFO, and a couple of ground contracts. I don't know if this answers your question, but it goes to show you that there aren't that many NFO contracts, because everyone wants to be a pilot. As a "Non Flying Officer", you'll either be in the f-18 or ea-6

He's talking USMC slots.

OK- sorry :)... didn't specify... I am putting in two packages, one through USMC and one through the Navy... so it was my USMC recruiter that told me that today...

so are marine nfo slots hard to come by? Most want to be pilots, not nfo's. Doesn't that mean it's there are usually a number of slots open for nfo? I figured that if you only had 4 or 5 nfo's in your class, it's because not many people want that mos.

I would guess, and this is only a guess, that not many people want to be NFO's, and hence it's a fairly easy contract to get.

Oh ya, about the avatar: there's nothing wrong with having a big boned wife.

For me, I can't see why MORE people wouldn't want to be NFOs... for me, I just have bad eyes, but correctable to 20/20 so I couldn't be a pilot without PRK, and when it came down to it for me I really didn't care where I was in the air as long as I got there... so maybe it's just not popular for people with the pilot rated vision?? I'd be interested to hear WHY people don't want NFO...

I think I like the idea of a marine NFO because it gaurantees a tactical jet position. When 60-70 % of marine pilots are going to helo's, I like the idea that I will be flying in a fast-mover.

That's definitely true.. I am sure that my chances for tacticaly jet are much better with USMC than with the Navy...

that's true, you definitely have a much better chance of being in a jet, but i'd rather fly it than sit in the back and look at the radar!
