NIFE Routine including muster

Can anyone speak on the daily routine while at NIFE? What is the time we need to typically be on base? What time do we usually go home? Do we get weekends off? Is it as stressful as OCS?

It is what it is. Classes start early but have plenty of time to get in base. Muster is only a thing for A-pool and flight phase. Weekends are off you may fly on Saturdays if you’ve been cancelled a bunch. Not as stressful as OCS (I’ve heard, never went to OCS) but its much more academically challenging.

NIFE 1 (academics)

Classes usually don't start until 8. Depending on the schedule, you'll typically go home around 2 or 3, maybe even 4. During academics, weekends are off, but like it was mentioned before, you might get scheduled on the weekends during flight phase if you're behind on events or something like that.

In terms of academics, it's about the same level of stress as OCS, if not a little bit more. Exams are given (usually) every Friday and Tuesday, starting with Aero in week 1. You'll have a few days to cram all the information into your head and regurgitate back on to the test, pretty much like JOC phase. NAV will be fairly simple if you did well on NAV at OCS.

If you know people ahead of you, see if you can get the pubs and start reading ahead. Some instructors are even kind enough to "review" what will be on the test. I personally didn't think NIFE 1 was that hard, but I had also been reading the pubs on a semi-daily basis for a few months before I classed up. NOTE: Primary ground school is also like this, so just try to stay ahead as much as possible.

NIFE 2 (flight phase)

NIFE 2 will vary based on your level of experience and your desire to learn. Having never flown before, it was a pretty exciting and humbling experience taking off in the 172 having only chair flown and committed procedures to memory. The CFIs are pretty chill, but the MFIs may or may not be as kind; I got dressed down during my check ride debrief and wasn't even sure I passed until I saw the grade sheet that night. My roommate with 300 hours proficiency advanced and had an easy check ride. YMMV

Days during flight phase can start as early as 5am and go as late as 6pm, depending on when your brief time is.
