Does anyone know about how many slots are available per year? Also, anyone have an idea of the main things the board takes into consideration when looking over your package? (This if for the Marine (ROTC) pre-TBS flight guarantee)

Nobody knows how many slots there are, and really, what does it matter? Although, there are zero flights slots for the next few years, or so I've heard. Also, the search function is a great tool for finding answers.

If there are none via NROTC. You can always pick one up at The Basic School (TBS). There are usually 1 or 2 Air/NFO slots up for competition. Just make sure you pass the ASTB with 4/6/6 at least

It's not incredibly difficult to get a Marine SNA slot out of NROTC. Do decent on the ASTB, decent grades, and be a good Marine Option. Those should be your goals anyways. From an academic standpoint, getting a Marine SNA slot is much easier, and it's cool that you can get it guaranteed.

Actually, it's not all that hard to pick up a flight guarantee as a Marine Option...I know because I just did in Dec. At the time I was notified, I believe there were still about 50 +/- a few slots left for the fiscal year 07. My MOI, who is a F/A-18 guy (he's been there, done that...so he broke it down barney style for me) basically told me there are 3 things that go into getting approved for your flight guarantee: 1) pass ASTB, 2) be medically qualified, and 3) graduate and get commissioned. After your medical gets approved by BUMED and sent back down to Mr. K in P'cola, it goes to MCRC and is reviewed on a rolling board. Basically, if you meet all the criterion, and there are flight slots available, you get one. Doesn't matter about ASTB scores (as long as you qual'd), etc. Anyways, if you have some more questions PM me and ill answer to the best of my ability. SF
