NROTC scoloship.Still achivable?

Hi, i have wanted to become a marine for about two years now. Im not sure what sparked my interest but the summer of my junior year I decided to change my lifestyle. I was 310 pounds, and I would be out of breath after going up a single flight of stars at my school. So I join a gym, started eating right and lost 100 pounds during my senior year of high school. But the problem is, I ruined my grades and attendance record in the process of becoming physically fit. I failed two classes my senior year, and I missed 38 days. I was wondering if I whip into shape(academically) for a year and a half of community collage, would I have the slightest chance of receiving a NROTC scholarship?

And anyone who has gotten the NROTC scholarship, could you give me a idea of what SAT, and GPA you had. I am obviously going to shoot for the top, but I would like to know what kid of competition ill be up against.

(I just realized I horribly misspelled scholarship and achievable)

All spelling and grammar issues aside, congrats on losing all that weight. It takes quite some dedication and motivation to do so.

I think there's a two year option for NROTC for college Juniors and Seniors. To my knowledge, which is limited as I'm not affiliated with NROTC, if applying for the two year they'll count all your achievements and academic scores for the past two years of college, which gives you a chance to start anew and make yourself competitive. All above all though, just make sure the school you want to attend has NROTC available.

This all based off the assumption that you've done extremely horrible in your Senior year which, respectfully, is the best way to describe failing two classes.

Have you looked at PLC?

I have looked into PLC but the issue I have is, their is no way i can financially afford two years at any university without a scholarship. And the community collage im about to enter does not offer bachelor degrees. Which is a requirement of PLC. So i figured i would shoot for a scholarship at the Virgina military institute. Since i live in va it cheaper, and close to my parents.(which is not really a issue for me, but my mom...well shes a mom)

u certainly have teh spelink skillz to be a Marene.

My advice...Shoot the Moon. Apply for every program possible. You've demonstrated tenacity already. Bang on every door possible until someone lets you in. Don't enlist hoping to commission once enlisted.

I failed two classes my senior year, and I missed 38 days.

Assuming a 9 month school year with an average 22 school days in a month gives you 198 school days. Subtract 10 for Christmas, 5 for Spring break, 3 for for Thanksgiving and another 5 for random days off gives you 175 school days in a school year.

You're telling us that you missed over 20% of the school year because you were at the gym?

haha no, I didn't miss those days for the gym, a went on hikes and Kayaking trips a lot. Some times they took 2 or 3 days, so the amount of time I missed racked up very quickly. I had two close friends who were getting fit with me.(although they didnt need quite as much work, and they were done with high school)

Damn....that was my backup in case BDCP fell through :D

Do you not get financial aid? What about student loans? The Government has a great deal of resources set up for those who want to seek higher education. I would know, I'm one that takes advantage of those resources ;)
