To join the Marines after college one has to go through OCC, is this only offered in the summer? So this means that if you don't make it before the summer you have to wait another year?

from Marines.com

College seniors and graduates can become Marine Corps officers by attending the OCC program. OCC is a 10-week training summer session at the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia.

How many classes are there during the summer? Can one still get in for this summer? Any clarification?

I think, that there are OCC classes in January, June and October. College grads should be able to go to anyone of these...college seniors would obviously have to wait until June. I think the PLC classes are only offerred in the summer. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. And as far as I know for this summer I think the apps go out at the end of this month or something since I'll have everything completed after the flight physical on weds. Unless I've been extremely misled..lol Hope that helps.

You are correct. If you are a college grad you go to OCC, otherwise it is PLC or NROTC. Check out the website www.ocs.usmc.mil There is a link to "scheduled classes". That gives you the dates.

OCC (Officer Candidate Class) is, for all intents and purposes, the same as OCS (Officer Candidate School).

The board meets some time in April (not sure when, if anybody knows could you post it) for the June class.

Application packages for OCC 186 are due April 2. The board meets approximately 1 week later. From what I understand, selection is a fairly speedy process once they get to the business of doing it.

April 11 may be the board meeting date. April 2 is the application due date, at least for me. Maybe my OSO is trying to make sure there is time to process the app. In any case, time is short. I have everything done, April 1 is my final shot at improving my PFT

James, Apr 11 is the DEADLINE, not the board meeting date. I retake the ASVAB and do my first PFT on the 8th and my OSO said I still have time to apply for the first increment. Your OSO is probably trying to save time. Can you blame him?

Why would you take the asvab, do you mean the ASTB, or do you have to take the ASBAB as well, I think i remember reading that if you broke 1000 on your sat you didn't have to take the asvab when applying for the Marines, and if you fell below 1000 you did?

Yes, that's correct on the SAT scores. However, for my neck of the woods (central midwest), the SAT isn't required for the local schools--only the ACT, so that's the one I took. I did well enough on it to get accepted to the University of Kansas, but for some reason the ACT doesn't mean jack to the Corps and the ASVAB is required before they'll submit my package.

Sure, it only takes them a few days to select candidates. But it'll be the longest WEEKS of your life waiting for the decisions to be returned. Trust me.
