OCS Package -- Scores issue

I am prior USN enlisted, 26 years old. I have two undergraduate degrees (BS in Management and a BA in Asian Studies) with a combined GPA of 3.54. Currently taking some graduate level MBA courses. I took the OAR last year and scored a 44. Boo.
I am interested in the Supply community. I talked to an officer recruiter out of Hawaii and he said that for fiscal year 2006 they want to fill 175 billets and so far have only covered 83. He suggested that I study and retake the OAR to shoot for somewhere in the 50s. But he also said I could apply now but that it might come back rejected.

OCS applications are reviewed on a rolling basis for Supply. So I was thinking that I should just apply now with my OAR score and while I am waiting for the results from the review board study and take the OAR again. That way if I do happen to get picked up—great, but if not—well at least I have studied and retaken the OAR already (hopefully for a better score). So what do you guys think? Should I submit now or study and redo the OAR and then submit?

Also, is there a waiting period before you can reapply to OCS if you’ve been rejected?

Apply now. Your scores are a bit low but the rest of your package may make up the difference. Don't know you so hard to tell. When you reapply they generally want to see how you improved your app over the last time. Just waiting with no improvement is not always a good strategy. If you apply now and retake the test while waiting to hear back then if you are non select you will have an improved score to fire right back with. As I recall the wait to repply is 6 months. I sure some one will verify that for you. Supply is hiring alot of guys. Some of the best opportunites right now are in Suppy. So, if the rest of you package is strong, excellenct PFT, good transcripts to go with the GPA, work experience, good prior service record, clean police and drug record and strong LORs, you may be ok. Good Luck

Thanks for your input. I called a different officer recruiter (this one from Florida) for a second opinion and gave him my stats and he seemed pretty excited. Claimed that “Supply is wide open and you stand a good shot at getting picked up even with a 44.” Following that conversation and what you wrote on this post I shot the officer recruiter I am dealing with in Hawaii and email saying I would like to apply right now with my score and study and retake the OAR while I am waiting for the ProRec or Non-select to come back.

Just out of curiosity do you know if I have to deal with the recruiter in my area or am allowed to go with someone outside my geographical area?

Also for the LORs I will probably only be able to get active duty officers and a chief as well as a college professor. Do you think that will be well rounded enough? I don’t really know any civilians besides college professors.

Those LORs should be fine. Senior enlisted and officers are always good, for obvious reasons. College Profs are good, if they have had you in class more then once or have worked with you closely on projects, as a TA, etc or are a social friend as well. Employer input comes from the employment references/verification sent out under eperate cover. If you have been involved in sports, to include adult league/intramural kind of stuff, input from a coach, manager, or team captian would be helpful. I think you will be ok with what you have though.

You really have to work with the recruiter whre you live or go to school. The recruiters have orders not to poach. In a practical sense, working with a guy further away then necessary just makes the application process more cumbersome and lenghty. Good Luck
