Hi everybody,
i applied to the Naval Academy and when I heard I was not accepted, I called a Marine recruiter to see what my options were. Before I knew it, I was running a PFT, taking an aviation test, signing a contract, and being sworn in. I won't know if I get in to PLC 2nd increment until after the board meets in late May. Anyways, my problem is that I dont really know what I am getting myself into. I do not know anybody who has been through this program and the little brochures that my OSO gave me are bullsh*t! I have been learning a lot through this forum, but does anyone know of a site that explains the PLC program in detail, and what I should expect? Also, what is the typically wash-out rate in OCS? Thanks everbody in advance for your help!

Typical wash-out rate is roughly 25%. Most from injury but others from integrity violations, DOR, unacceptable performance, etc.

You need to be more specific about what information you are looking for.

Here are some webpages:

http://www.marineofficercandidate.com/
http://marineocs.com/portal/index.php

I find it hard to believe you went though process of contracting without knowing what you were contracting for. If this is the case, you better get squared away fast.

For the Naval Academy reject, its good to go, I've been there too. PLC is one of the Marines main sources of gaining commisioned officers. I think depending on where you are and who your OSO and OSA will depend on how much you like the program. I think RYANVR said the attrition rate is 25% I think it might be higher than that. Basically PLC'ers train in the summers and depending when you got in the program, I'm guessing as a freshman. You'll train this summer and summer 06'. My Officer Selection Office stays really busy and we do alot of pool functions and PFT's and PT, mainly because we like to compete with the large ROTC/NROTC programs. However I did transfer OSO's and my last OSO was not together and the program was a joke. When it comes to reporting to OCS, being physically fit is absolutely key. If you were a high school athlete or you're in great shape you find that OCS is a breeze (if you can take the sleep deprivation, sergeant instructors, and the dumb rock-like candidates that make life suck.) and you can actually gain a sense of the lifestyle by going to the OCS website and looking at the picture galleries. www.ocs.usmc.mil
