OCS start dates

Just wondering if anyone has any insight as far as OCS applicants being granted the start date that they put on their application. For example, on my application I put that I would be available in January, though I'm pretty sure I will be final select mid-November. Does anyone have any experience with requesting a delayed entry date and them telling you to start prior, or are they usually pretty flexible about granting the date requested (within reason)? Thanks.

Yeah, on the commissioning application it asks what date you could be available to go to OCS. I don't know if the currently enlisted guys fill out the same form, but I'm a civilian, and it was on my form.

Ken,
Yeah, I'm with skim. When I filled out my commissioning app I do not recall filling out a start date. Although it was last summer when I filled it out. I am currently a civilian too. I got Pro'Recd for OCS as well and it seems as though January is when I'll be checking in....maybe we'll be in the same class together. -See ya in Newport!

I remember there being a question on the application that asked what was your earliest available report date. I put mine as ASAP and had to wait two months. Others put ASAP and reported the next week. Just make sure you put a date that is reasonable. I believe they actually pay attention to it, and if you put a date that is earlier than when you'll be in physical shape you're only screwing yourself.

I will check that today. I have the app saved on my other computer. Also, I got confirmed that my Medical checked out and that my Background was being opened. Hopefully by next week I will hear good news.

When my husband (then fiance) applied for OCS last year, he knew we were getting married in June and leaving the country for a month, so he just gave himself room to get home and pack again before RI. He ended up leaving August 18th to report. They did, however, call him in May asking him if he wanted to leave in June instead of wait, so it's possible you could be picked up earlier.

On the application I submitted, there is a small item on the first page asking about the earliest date you can commence officer training. Question number 9.

OCS Start Date

I don't know if it's different for BDCP, but I requested a July start date (I'm graduating in June) and I'll be reporting 27 July.

Ken, sent you a PM, but in case anyone else was wondering the same thing: I requested a date after Sept 1 2008 and at first was given a much earlier date. However, my recruiter was able to call and get my start date moved to be after my requested date. So in short they may not give you your requested date, but it's possible to get that changed.

I think I remember it now. I believe I put something along the lines of 'after graduation'. Its now november and I graduated this past may so they are holding up their end of the bargin:eek:
