OCS Vision

Hey everyone if it has already been posted then my searching abilities need work. My question is do I need to get contacts before OCS or will I be fine without them. I have 20/20 in one eye and 20/25 in the other. I know that I need 20/20 corrected for SNA. I have never used glasses or contacts so I am wondering if I need to get contacts or glasses before I go although I have heard they issue glasses. Any advice is appreciated.

No you don't need glasses before OCS. The optometrist will put that big machine in front of your face and make sure he can correct your vision to 20/20 within the specific limitations for SNA. I was 20/30 in OCS and I wasn't issued glasses. You can bring contacts if you want but you won't have a chance to wear them until candio phase.

Oh ok. I don't even have contacts or glasses I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to be 20/20 corrected before I got there. Thanks for the advice.

No problem. When I went to NAMI in PCola I was still 20/30 and was issued glasses and required to wear corrective lenses when flying as per my up chit. They will issue a set of clear aviators and you can get a free pair of civilian glasses and sunglasses once per year.
