Officer Recruiter question

Hey all,

Ok well, around this time last year, I contacted a navy recruiter about the BDCP program. He said I couldn't apply until I had at least 1 semester at a 4 yr college (I was at a community college at the time). Now I have a semester at a 4yr college but i lost his contact info... anywho... I called the officer recruiter number on navy.com and someone took down all my info and said a recruiter would contact me. It's been about a month and no one has called me. Has this happened to anyone else? The original time I called (when i was still in a 2yr college) I was put through to a recruiter right away. Is this something new they're doing? I think I’m at least somewhat competitive from the questions I was asked over the phone. This is for an SNA slot and my GPA is 3.9. Also, if anyone happens to just have a number for a recruiter anywhere in southern California, that would work too.

Thanks,
JAmes

Ok, two things that I've learned in my experiences with recruiters. First off, the fiscal year starts in October. Meaning that September, October, etc, are times when if someone has enough time to pick up the phone they're extremely lucky. Esp. if you still have plenty of time left, don't worry about it if you have a tough time getting in touch with someone.

Second, try alternate ways of getting to people. The officer recruiters in my area visit my school 2-3 times per year at the career fairs. Not just someone from the office, but the actual guys that work with me to get my app prepared and sent out, so you just go up, introduce yourself, and they hand you a business card with their direct number written on it. If that doesn't work, do what I originally did. Find an NROTC unit. I actually drove to another school that I knew had a unit, asked at the info desk where the office was, and just started asking questions. The best person to talk to in the whole office was the office manager, a nice civilian lady who just happened to have names and direct phone numbers for officer recruiters, as well as officers in most if not all of the communities who worked with prospective applicants. Basically, the information you want is hidden very very well, and you just need to be creative in how you go about finding it. :icon_wink

The end of the government FY, is not a player in recruiting activity. The selectees that filled out the 2005 fiscal year are already at OCS, selected months ago. I have explained it a dozen times here. No big deal, it just isn't the problem here. The guys that take those calls are from a department outside of Officer Programs recruiting. They take info all day from every kind of wannabe, enlisted and officer. They pass your info on to an OPO recruiter. He is required to respond to you in a certain amount of time. Frankly, that just doesn't happen too often. The percentage of guys that call that line and are refered to OPO that actually are qualified is very small. The percent that end up contracting is even smaller. In other words, responding to those calls is a low priority.

I can't believe you had a hard time finding a number to call. Have you heard of a phone book? Since I am sitting at a computer I simply googled and in 15 seconds found the numbers you need. I am a salty old guy with limited computer skills and I found what you were either too lazy to look for or not smart enought to find.

NRD San Diego OPO 619-524-6750
NRD LA 323-298-6615 (main number didn't find the OPO direct line)

Good Luck

Well, I guess I am dumb... or you just have killer google skills because I tried typing in about 10 variations of "naval officer recruiter/contacts/numbers" etc. and nothing came up... other than stuff on navy.com. And as far as my phone book, i've already tried that. It just lists local enlisted recruiting stations, none of which would give me a number for an officer recruiter, and all of which tried to talk me out of becoming an officer... telling me to enlist instead. anywho... as i search for further enlightenment... would you mind telling me the site you got those numbers off of? or at least what magical words you typed into google?

Thanks for the contacts,

James

So you want a short lesson on www searches. I your post you asked for a number for officer recruiting in Southern Ca. So, when searching how about narrowing it down to what you want. Two big socal cities are LA and San Diego. I do happen to know the there is a Recruting Dist HQ in both LA and San Diego. But if you simply enter the names of the two largest cities in the area you are interested in, along with navy recruiting and maybe officer programs or officer recruting, something useful will pop up. Hey, it is the world wide web. You can't just put in officer recruiter contacts. I'm surprised you didn't get a hit for Foreign Service Officer recruitment or Spanish AF officer recruitment. Alternatively, you can go the the US Navy's main web site and find an alphabetic list of nearly every Navy command web site.

While the enlisted recruiters sometimes do try to get college students neading money to look at enlisted programs, they might also not give you the number so they can pre qualify you and then refer you to OPO themselves. They get brownie points for that.

Thanks for the help Wink. I already tried searching those combinations and neither of them brought up anything useful. I also don’t remember anything but USN oriented sites coming up when I typed in Naval officer programs. I don't really understand why you keep belittling me. I’m sure you’re sick of people who don’t put the effort out to try and find the answers to their questions first, but I’ve tried and haven’t found what I’m looking for. I don’t understand why you can’t just tell me the webpage(s) you got those numbers from.

Thanks,

JAmes

I gave you the freaking phone numbers. I did the damn work for you. Why do you need the web pages? I can't tell you why they don't come up for you. I told you, I am an old guy with little computer skill. Just call the damn numbers and say you don't know how to find a contact number for a navy officer recruiter yourself but really want to be a naval officer anyway. Don't make a big deal out of this. Just call the numbers and get the process started.

Or don't.

As a professional advice giver outer myself, I would have to suggest you stop pissing off Wink. You may need his help later and instead of responding to another of your posts requesting help, he might just decide not to bother. Yes, Wink is old....really old as a matter of fact. But he's got a razor sharp memory and he'll remember you.

As for his gouge, I ran my own independent research and have to admit that Wink was off the mark a bit. He said he found what you were looking for in about 15 seconds. This is a gross exaggeration. It took me only about 8.5 seconds to find the same info.

BT

Here's the flow.
Google "navy officer recruiter" (no quotes) --> click on Commander, Navy Recruiting Command Homepage --> select an NRD from the scroll down list (one closest to you) --> click on DoD Warning System pop-up --> click on Officer Program links (off to the left) --> click on Points of Contact link in center of the page --> waa laa

Just keeping it real.
Steve
