OHARP question

I would appreciate some help as at this point I am very confused. I've done a forum search on this but I haven't been able to get all the facts. I'm comissioning from ROTC in May and am STILL waiting on a flight school date. However instead of returning to my unit to work I would like to do OHARP in my hometown. I was under the impression that I would still be paid and get BAH during that time and there wasn't a particular time limit. Now I have heard of a 10 week limit. Since I am trying to acquire a September report date for API that would fall outside 10 weeks. Does anyone know the particulars of OHARP in this situation or how I can find out? Any help is much appreciated.

Good luck with that. I am a December grad and I am looking at a mid September API class. In order to go OHARP, at least from down here, you must be complete all of the check-in stuff, NAMI, DIVOLC, and IFS. As of last week, flight management said that no OHARP requests would be approved without all of these things done.

Does OHARP availability depend on the city/state too? I would think so but maybe some could clarify. My DB is graduating from OCS early June and would like to return to DFW to do OHARP as well.

Thanks in advance for the help!

sna- all I did was call up my local recruiter and tell them my situation and ask them if they would be willing to let me help them until I went to Pensacola. If they give it the OK you should be fine.

I was under the impression that OHARP could be done before even reporting to Pensacola. I know some other kids from our unit have done it this way. I wasn't looking to do it after reporting in to Pensacola but hopefully there will be no time limit because with a May graduation my 10 weeks would be up end of July.

You can do it before you go to Pcola. You need to coordinate both with your NROTC unit and the NRD where you want to go. The limit I'm not sure about however. I did OHARP a month after I graduated and my TAD orders for it were written for a month. During that time my NROTC CO said he could keep extending the orders their until I went to Pcola, but I can't confirm that as I went back to my ROTC unit when my TAD orders expired since my OHARP job sucked.

Yes. Prior to requesting OHARP, you need to contact your hometown recruiter and ask him/her if you can come. The chances are they will say yes, but ask them first. Also, if you don't have an officer recruiting office really close to your hometown, don't worry. I live in Silverdale, WA, which is over an hour communte to Seattle, which is where the nearest officer recruiting station is. I asked the LT. at NRD Seattle if I could work out of the enlisted recruiting office in Silverdale for 4 days a week and only commute to Seattle once a week and he was fine with that. Just coordinate that with the enlisted recruiting office as well.
