Not entirely commercial aviation, but anyone else seen this documentary? I'm a big fan of going and renting a Cessna or Piper on the weekends so I really enjoyed the film. Thought some of the cinematography was amazing, plus it was really neat to see the history of an airport like Van Nuys. I'd recommend checking it out.

It was on one of the HD channels a while back (HD Theater or something like that).

^ everything he said it was and more. See it in HD if you can.

Loved it too. I know it's on HDNet movies too every once and a while.

PSW bought it for me for Christmas, and unfortunately I wasn't able to get through all of it yet. I absolutely loved what I did see though. When I get home, I'm planning on pouring a home brew, and watching it from start to finish.

I bought it, along with "One Six Left" about a year or two ago.
Every real pilot should watch them.

I thought it was excellent. The visuals are great in the movie, and it has a good story to tell. I lent my DVD to a local high school teacher to use in the aviation class he teaches at the school.

I grew up in Reseda, just a couple of miles west on Victory Blvd from VNY. Spent thousands of hours of my youth riding my bike over there and hanging on the fence and watching airplanes, and attending what were at the time pretty big air shows (mostly static as I recall). Used to be a neat little squadron of AT-6's on the west side of the field all painted up like WWII German fighters, and a cool red P-38 two-seat variant named YIPPEE that we could crawl around. Very cool memories, and I, too, got the DVD from my sone two Christmases ago. Great documentary and history lesson.

I own it on HD DVD, although I've only watched it once. Some really great flying footage and "Ken Burns-ed" pictures in there, which are probably the only reasons I've kept it. Kinda neat history lesson, too.

Maybe my expectations going into it were too high, but overall I was a little nonplussed. Guess I'll have to give it another look.

I bought the DVD a while back after seeing an ad for it in AOPA mag. Very relaxing with a great story and cinematography. Haven't seen it yet in HD, but I can only imagine how much better it is. I've even got my wife to watch and she loves it (she usually can't stand my type of documentaries)! A great gift for any aviation enthusiast.

Guess its time to pick up One Six Left. Onward to Best Buy!

It's unfortunate it's not on Blu Ray, but the upconverting feature of the PS3 makes it look pretty dang good on my tv.

Watched the companion dvd, One Six Left, today and it's just as good.

One Six Right did for my J-3 flight instruction and scenic ride business (www.silverwingsflying.com) what Top Gun did for Navy Recruiting. (That;s a slight exageration, but at least I didn't have to pay for the hangar out of pocket this year) The film was very well done and Mr. Twillinger took a huge professional and finacial risk that it would be a flop. Glad it worked out for him. It was refreshing to finally see someone promote general aviation instead of trying to end it. I've up and down the Santa Paula Valley where most of the air to air shots took place.

That's quite the well known P38, its a sought after die cast piece.

It was the 5000th built. That is a lot of P38's.
