Orders to API and Primary

Just got 07July orders, couple of questions.

I'm in a slightly different situation than most SNA's(finishing grad school), so I just wanted to see if my orders were any different. It lists API as an intermediate activity for 120 days, and the ultimate activity at Whiting. Do they switch this if you get Corpus, or does it sound like I'm slated for Whiting? My detailer was giving me some **** about "the navy won't move you twice since you're coming from grad school instead of undergrad", so he was making it sound like we had no choice of Whiting or Corpus.

Also, for both the "intermediate" stop (pensacola) and "ultimate" activity (whiting), it says that I am required to live in government quarters (BOQ), and that you can only live off base if you get a stamp saying "no quarters available". Anybody else have this on their orders?

One more thing....It says "no per diem is authorized if intermediate activity is in the same geographic location as the ultimate station"

I've never heard of people getting per diem for API - is Whiting considered the same geographic location? And if you get Corpus or Vance, does that mean you get 120 days of per diem? That doesn't sound right....but it would be incredible

Thats bull****... I know plenty of people who went to grad school that ended up in Corpus for Primary (and Vance too).

The BOQ thing is easy... just go there and ask for a nonavailability stamp- you shouldnt have any problems.

The only people that I've ever heard of getting per diem are the BDCP guys, and the people who went to Vance.

You can end up in any of the three bases for primary. The way it worked for our class out of AFIT. Four of us were married and ended up staying at Whiting. I don't think it's so much because we were married than it was that we requested to stay at Whiting. 6 of us ended up in Corpus and 1 ended up in the T-6 at Vance. The Corpus and Vance people received per diem for the time they spent in API. And they will pay for your move to Corpus or Vance. They just rewrite your orders if that's where you end up going. This info is valid for those of us that graduated from AFIT two years ago, so as you know, things can change. Always gotta throw in that qualifier.

Oh, and Whiting is considered the same geographic area. The four of us that stayed at Whiting received no per diem. But there is good news, we did receive $250 from USAA for losing our frozen and refrigerated food after Hurricanes Ivan and Dennis!!

I'm graduating here in a few weeks, I put in for the same day (7JUL). I'm exempt from IFS (PPL) so my question is: does (and I'm sure this question has been asked a million times) anyone know if I would be starting API right away or will I be sitting around for a while. Either way I don't really care but getting the show on the road would be pretty nice.

I have the same orders as IrishNavy05 and coming from grad school. I heard that once you check in, you can eighter keep your whiting orders or get thrown in the mix. By being in the mix, you could end up at Whiting, Corpus, or Vance. This is coming from somebody who had the exact same orders. It would be nice to stay in Whiting and not have to move again, especially since most people seem to get helo's anyways.

It's hard to say what the wait time will be. However, I will say this, all the pilots in A-pool now will be classed up by May. Also, it doesn't mattter what your detailer said or what your follow on orders say, you can be switched to any one of the three training wings for Primary. Follow on orders don't mean S**t

Not true. If you are married and/or have kids you can get follow on orders to Milton that API will honor. As for the wait time, thats always in flux. In January when I started the wait for IFS complete guys was around 8 weeks. When I arrived in P-Cola in September it was around 4 weeks. I'm sure somebody that's still there has better gouge on it than I do.

I put in my package before coming to grad school. It's a program for undergrads with aerospace engineering majors who've already been selected for pilot (although they let a nuke guy in this year too)

Irish, do you have dependants?

As far as the availability of BOQ rooms, you're likely not getting a non-avail stamp, by July the BOQ's will be 100% repaired & they are going to be sucking in any single O they can!

Looking for any "eyes on" information about BOQ space at Pensacola. Will be checking in as a geo-bach on May 5.
