Other Fleet Accession guys

Heya ladies and gents. I was just picked up for the Fleet Accession program (basically it's a program to take serving Marine ground officers and send them to flight school to be aviators).

Are there others on this forum who walked the same path I'm starting now? What special challenges did you have being a fleet accession officer?

S/F,
Nate

Not a fleet ascesion guy but I can point you in the right direction. When you get there as a fleet ascesion guy you really wont know anyone. All the other guys went to OCS TBS and or college together so they all have gouge connections. This isnt a big deal you jsut have to "get out there and make some friends" (it sounds kinda gay I know). You need to get into study groups and get gouge.

You will probably not ecperience any wait in the pools, they try and get the lfeet acesions through quickly so you will be rolling from group to group at each stage.

Good luck

Is the gouge in flight school much different from the stuff I've been seeing on the Internet (ie. bryanweatherup.com, navygouge.com, etc.)

not really...but those sites are a tad dated and there might be some updated stuff floating around.

that stuff is good for the most part but I think the gouge skid is talking about is the kind you get from other guys going through the program. You learn a lot from other people's mistakes and successes, as well as things like what a certain instructor may emphasize. sometimes another student can better explain what you need to make happen on a flight better than an instructor can, because they are usually at the same experience level aviation wise that you are and can relate better. basically don't try and lone ranger it through flight school, it can be done but life will be a lot more difficult than it has to be.

I'm a lateral transfer (Navy version of fleet accession), and I concur with what's been said above. Just a few things to add: Policy at API was to get the senior guys through first, but it was never really enforced when it actually came to the classup dates for IFS or API. So, if you want to get moving and not wait in the A-pool, it's up to you to go into the IFS office and make sure that they start you ASAP. Once you've finished IFS, get into the API stucon office and make sure they get you classed up. Of course, you could also just hide away and take the Navy-sponsored vacation that is the A-pool. As far as Primary goes, I can only speak for TW-5 (Whiting), but when I went got there (MAR 05), they would class you up ASAP if you were an O-3. The final heads up I can give you regards selection: Of the two other fleet accession guys I know, one of them was told he couldn't go jets because he was already so senior (1 year as an O-3), and the other (2 months as an O-3) did select jets, but it was against our CO's official recommendation, due to his seniority.

That has to do with DH @ YG+11 timing. Jets take a long time to train, and your timing for DH is dicey at best.

OTOH, in helos, I am supposed to be out of my 1st fleet tour before 1 year as a LT. And that is with the longest Helo RAG. (HSL)

Of course, being early caused YG+11 problems too. I am on the other end of the spectrum. (yes, I am IA Bait)
