USMC Overhaul of Marine small arms training and qual

Interesting development And a welcome one I am sure. It seems like doctrine and concepts employ much of mechanics from the practical shooting community. Nice to see the introduction and use of shot timers. I know there's been a gradual dipping of the toe in the water the last 10 or 15 years but to see Marines embracing modern techniques is refreshing and in contrast, how outdated the old school snap in and sighting and position exercises of the '70s, '80s and '90s really were.

Seems like a worthwhile change. As the article cites, having 10 minutes to take 10 shots at 500 yds is not what Marines experienced in OIF/OEF. Shots have to be a lot faster.

Totally off topic and random useless info but the retired general quoted in that article, Maj. Gen. James “Hammer” Hartsell (Ret.), Distinguished Shooter, was my company commander when I was serving with B Co 1/6 in the early 90s. Did a Med float in 92-93 with the 22nd MEU with him.
