Just curious if any of yall are packin'? If so what? Also, I'm at an impass, trying to decide between 9mm and .40S&W, anyone have any thoughts on pro's and con's of the two calibers (lack of 9mm stopping power, .40 kB's, etc.)? Thanks.

I own a Glock Model 23 (compact .40S&W)

9mm ammo is cheaper and less recoil, that's bout the only difference I can tell

nonetheless, 9mm hollow point will stop anyone

I only have a small snub nosed .38 special that i use with hollow points. The weird thing is is that I dont have a Concealed handgun license yet, but my wife does.

Hi-power isn't bad for carry, or I could go all out and carry the Ruger Blackhawk 357, but the only way to carry that thing is with a suitcase!

S&W make great revolvers but not good autos. Their sales rep was quoted as saying "Smith and Wesson we makes the best revolvers on earth" when asked about autos he said "S&W, we make the best revolvers on earth.

I have a Springfiled 1911 .45 and it is great

Look at the new .45 GAP... same punch as the ACP cartridge, but with the capacity of a 40/9mm w/o a fatter grip. Glock makes a couple, HK's is either out or soon to be out, and Springfields should be out this month. Great cartridge.... once it gains a little popularity, it will go down a lot in price and likely bump a chunk of the .40 market.

Wow... I look like a wussy now. I just bought a Walther P-22 a few weeks ago. I figured I'd learn to shoot well... cheaply. Before I get condemned.... I put over 1050 rounds down it this weekend... for the total cost of about 10 bucks.

Once I get better, I'll look into getting a nicer "whoop-ass" weapon.

Yeah, I was looking at the Glock 19 but the failure to feed/last round nosedive problem with JHP had me starting to think about making the move to .40S&W. Glock 23 in particular, so long as I don't use reloads a lot, been hearing about kB's with hot reloads and such. Still deciding.

Why does everyone like the Glock 23? Why not go with the full-size Glock 22? I like the 22 more.... plus... if you have any friends that are cops, you can get the 17 round mags.

I never thought of myself as a hippie peace-nik, but are you guys saying that you're actually walking around carrying a pistol? I like guns fine, but it just seems like more trouble than it's worth. For instance, running out to the grocery store,"Hmmm...where will I put my piece?"

why can't we (the military) get the 15/17 round mags?
I have a 9mm glock (i can never remember if I have the 17 or 19). I like it the feel of the weapon, but don't necessarily like the trigger pull.
i also have a 12ga. short barrel/semi tactical shotgun. I enjoy shooting that a lot. point and spray.

Well, I have a SIG P226 9mm, a Glock 23 .40, an AR-15, Ruger 10/22, Mosin-Nagant 1891/30, M1 Garand, and a Remington 870 12 gauge. :D

I had a CCL in Massachusetts, going to get mine here in Florida... eventually.

Oh, and I have hi-caps (pre-ban) for all my pistols, the best place to buy them are private party. Gun stores RAPE you for them.

For Chubby: Try a different JHP. Ranger-T works perfect for me.

My father inherited my grandfather's 1911, and it will pass to me when I don the butter bar. From the sounds of it, there is no perticular restriction on the sidearm you carry, however is there a set of guidelines? i.e. should there be any problem with me carrying that perticular gun?

I have taken that gun to the range a 20 or so times and always been pleased with it. I personally own a S&W 38, inaccurate but small and still puts a slug of lead in the air.

p.s. the 1911 is a fine darn gun, reliable, steady and powerful. Talk about hitting the nail on the head with that model. Also is the Colt gun the same as the Springfield gun, or am I missing something blaringly obvious?
