Is it allowed to hold a part-time/second job while in BDCP? I haven't heard/read anything about this ...

Wouldn't see why not, but talk to your recruiter. He's a much more reliable source of info in this matter than I am.

I had a weekend job during BDCP, and 2 jobs over the summer. Never asked for permission. Just make sure you can handle it and your courseload.

I don't see a problem either, but my recruiter says you're not supposed. Just wondering if anyone else heard this or knows where this is written.

I have been working the entire time and I am in BDCP. My recruiter knows about it, and we joke about my job a lot. I imagine as long as your grades are good they will not care at all.

I will have to keep up my flight instruction gig while on BDCP. There is no way I can drop my client list and pay all of my bills. I have never heard anything that would make me think that it would be a problem. From what I understand, BDCP is there to help you so you don't have to work as much. I

Is your recruiter a SWO by chance?

I worked for a while under BDCP then quit the moment my pay started, though I was welcomed to stay longer.

If I get accepted for BDCP, I don't plan to hold a part-time job again except maybe when I'm retired... I already have scholarships that pay for my tuition and expenses, so what the Navy pays will be all going to my bank account :).
I'm more interested in BDCP for the job security (and the job itself, of course) than for the money.

Someone you know?
No, but figured since his recruiter was being such a jack ass about the job thing, he/she had to be a SWO. Shame on me for jumping to conclusions without all the facts.

To the original poster, the bottom line is you need to do what you need to do. If you can't keep the lights on without working, do what you need to do to keep them on. If that means delivering pizza or selling cosmetics in Macy's, so be it. Explain the situation to your recruiter and suggest to him/her that this isn't that uncommon for BDCP bubbas to work.
