Prior to getting accepted in the BDCP program, I had 12 years as enlisted (8 Active Duty Marines, 4 Marine Reservist). When I was accepted into the BDCP program, I was in the marine reserves and ranked as an E-6. Does anyone know if I'm suppose to keep my rank and PAY as an E-6 or go down to E-3?

I'm getting told different things, so if someone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

If you were an E-6 in the Reserves, you should get paid as an E-6 for BDCP. I was an E-5 in the Navy, but I have a 6 year break in service so if I get selected for BDCP I will start at E-3. Hope this helps.

That is a tough one. I assume that you will drop to E-3 because of the parameters of the BDCP program though. Recruit someone or graduate to get E-5!

I know for a fact that you should get paid for your years of service (E-3 with over 12)...I fought that and the navy is paying me 5k backpay for the last 2 years right now!

I was told by my recruiter that if you are in a technical degree (Math, Engineering, etc..) that you get E-6 pay. And if you maintain a certain GPA for two consecutive semester you can get a pay raise to E-4. I don't know if they would go to E-7 pay.

Well, I'm engineering, and I'm E-3 right now. As far as I know, BDCP starts at E-3 no matter what degree you're in. You need deans list <usually 3.5> 2 semesters in a row to make another grade, and you can recruit someone to make a grade. You can't recruit 2 and get 2 grades though.

NUPOC is different though. They start at E-5 and can move to E-7; my friend is in that.

I was an engineering major in BDCP (SNA) and was getting paid as an E-3. Got deans list two consecutive semesters and was advanced to E-4. When i graduated ion may was advanced to E-5. Promotions happen fast and DFAS keeps up with your current paygrade for pay reasons very efficiently.

I believe if you are NUPOC you get E-6...but they are required to keep a 3.3 GPA (which is deans list anyway) where BDCP is only required to keep a 2.7. I think if you recruit someone in NUPOC they will advance you to E-7.

Here are the true facts.

Case:

A) If you are active duty or active reserves, you are entitled to keep your current rank, as long as there is no break in service. "THIS ONLY APPLIES TO NAVY ENLISTED, IT DOES NOT APPLY FOR ANY OTHER BRANCH OF THE MILITARY, so if you are a marine and this case applies to you, sorry the BDCP will not take in consideration your current rank even if you are active.

B) If you are prior service honorably discharged, the BDCP will consider your time in service but will enlist you as an E-3 ~ depending on the community you choose.

I.e.
I served 4 years active duty + 4 years inactive reserves = 8 years total service
Meaning that I am getting paid as an E-3 with 8 years service.
