Pay Problems at OCS?

I am currently in BDCP and go to OCS in Feb 2006. I have heard that many people have paycheck problems during OCS. On some military message boards people seem to agree that one has to plan on waiting 6-8 weeks after OCS begins before their pay comes in.

Question: Is this problem common? Does it only affect non-BDCP OCS people or does it affect everyone? Is there something that one can do to prevent it or help out in the mean time?

I wonder if my being in BDCP already and thus already receiving paychecks from the Navy would prevent the problem? I know that during OCS I will be paid at the rate of an E-5 while right now I am paid at the rate of an E-4. If the only problem I run into is that I will have to wait 6-8 weeks to get the pay increase I can live with that.

Any info?

Well, I have heard of problems with pay increases and what not. I know several individuals that have had stalled promotions and pay problems associated with this. The bottom line is that you WILL get paid what you deserve, eventually. It took about two months for me to get my BDCP pay, but when I got paid, it was a very nice check.

The bottom line is, I wouldn't necessarily count on uncle sam screwing up, but obvoiusly it does happen from time to time. I'd bank some extra dough before OCS so you don't end up between a rock and a repo man.

I think most of the pay problems happen with people just starting out getting paid by the Navy. I was BDCP and had zero problems. Don't worry about it.
