I know the pay grade for an 0-1 but including free dental and medical, housing, and whatnot. How much do you think the whole package is worth? I was talking with my father on the phone and I got curious so I decided post it on the forum, I didn't want to ask my CO, it sounded impolite.

P.S. Am I the only one here who wants to go ground?

As for the only one wanting to go ground... wait until TBS. You find after the OCS and TBS and all the cool things you get to do, many more "Butter Bars" will want to go ground... mostly for the leadership and command opportunities.

DISCALAIMER: That is what I have been told... I am a former Marine who is awaiting
Navy OCS.

That being said in aviation, you really don't get a chance to lead/command until you are field grade, on the ground you start at the juinor grade level.

War were declared.
DFAS actually sent us each a sheet while I was at TBS that calculated it all up for us individually... It added Base Pay, BAH, BAS, medical, etc. The total for me was supposedly $44K (As a 2nd Lt, Under 2 Years, With Dependents). I don't know... it doesn't feel like $44K. I would guess mid to high 30's.

It takes into account what a med/dental plan and a retirement would cost you as well. We really do make good money. Not GREAT money, but it is competetive.

That also includes the fact that BAS and BAH are untaxed, putting you in a lower tax bracket.

You may think you're the only one here that wants to go ground because this website is called AIRwarriors.com.

I thought it was the other way around, after OCS and TBS lots of motivating groundpounders saw the light and tried for air at TBS.

Family medical/dental is a huge bonus.

Could someone please fill me in on the "butter bars".

What do they do with all the Air options that do not qualify to become a pilot?

Butter bars is just a slang term for the gold bars that a 2nd Lt wears.
If you don't qualify to become a pilot, meaning you attrite or DOR (drop on request) out of flight school, you fill out preferences of what other MOS's you'd like, and then the USMC puts you where they want.
