The other day here at TBS they had a bunch of us flight contracts take a performance based measurement battery (PBMB) as part of a study that one day might be part of the ASTB (NOT anytime soon - so don't get your panties in a wad for all those that haven't taken it yet). I did some digging and you can read more about the study here: www.navalengineers.org/Events/HSIS2007/documents/PsychomotorFinal.pdf

I was curious to see if any of the winged aviators here have taken it and what they thought about it.

It was pretty confusing and challenging. The whole thing was kind of fun actually.

So I take it not many other people have participated in this study?

I think they had us take it while we were in A-pool, or at least some form of it. Took a week of our time to do and it consisted of written tests as well as a computer portion where they tested our monkey skills, very similar to the Air Force BAT. Had a joystick, a throttle, some scenarios, lots of pictures, lots of questions.

Actually, looking through the study, we took that exact same test. It was kinda fun just watching everyone else making wierd faces at it. I think the thing we all concurred on was just how lucky we were that we were only test subjects and not the poor nubs that will actually get tested with it.

I took the TBAS in the fall. All I can say it that it is pretty much just a video game. Throw a bunch of info at you and see how long it takes you to process it while doing some task with a joystick, throttle and pedals. Believe it or not, it was actually kind of cool.
