PCS move for api

So I have my orders and set everything up. I thought for SNA's it was only a TDY move limited to 600lbs... but according to the tmo office and my XO it looks like the Navy wrote me PCS orders for API...does this sound right to anyone else?

It all depends. Usually the orders are only TDY. Sometimes however, and it seems like it's a very random few, people do get PCS orders to API. I've had friends get them and their situation and mine were the exact same; I received TDY however. So yes, it is possible your orders are PCS. If they are, consider yourself lucky.

Another thing to take in to consideration is how long you're going to be down there. Once you've hit the twenty week mark (the day you check in counts as day one), you can have your orders modified so that they are now PCS orders. That's what happened with me and it worked out pretty well. I moved around 1200 lbs down there knowing that I would only be reimbursed for 600 lbs. Once my orders were modified though, I was now entitled to receive money for everything I moved down there. Gave me just over an extra g which was great for the hookers and blow.

Thanks... and I chalk this one up to the horseshoe in my keister... the TMO office approved me for a DITY for ~xx00lbs (a bedroom set, couches, lots of books)... and the orders say PCS on them... so I'll take it.

take it and run. when i was originally cut orders they were tad orders giving me 600# of stuff to move. 6 months later after a huge wait i left pensacola. it turns out that since i was there so long they changed the orders to PCS. if i had known that i wouldn't have sold everything leaving my college apartment. bastards.

Ok I'm lost - if API orders are normally TDY, what is one supposed to do with their household goods?

Tempo Govt storage somewhere. Likely where a lot of my crap is going when I get to Corpus. (no househunting leave taken, so I don't have an apartment lined up yet).

MasterBates,
It shouldn't take you longer than a day or so to find a place once you get down here. There are tons of open apartments/condos down here and any realtor can hook you up rather quickly. Or, if you wanted to skip the realtor step, the "I'm selling my shizzle board" in TW-4 has quite a few condos/1-bedroom houses for rent by owner. Best of luck.

That's pretty standard, really. You probably shouldn't expect HH leave until after your first fleet tour. Anything before that is gravy and completely at the discretion of your command.

Ok, educate the rookie - if no HH time, then how are people expected to find living accomodations?

The same way 1000s of other people have in the past - show up prepared with a little pre-research, live in the Q/hotel for a few days until you can make arrangements. Usually people showing up for initial accession training don't have huge amounts of HH goods or other "baggage," so it's not a big deal. The first time I got (or needed) HH leave was when I moved from Whidbey to SOCAL and that was after being in for 14 years.

Thanks Brett, I don't really think I need it, I'm just glad they are paying to move everything for me this time.
