I am a Marine just out of Parris Island. I leave for MCT this Tuesday and then will go straight to Pensacola to start my F18 airframe mechanic training.

Does anyone know what the living conditions are? Barracks? Dorm? Are you on your own with a class schedule or being paraded around in formation?

Thanks,
Shaggy

As a flight student I was only at pcola for about six weeks. The barracks appeared to be like a dorm room. As far as the schedule goes, i'm not sure, there were time i saw Marines in formation and other when they'd be walking along by themselves. hope this helps.

It's like a collee dorm, only quite a bit more strict (duh)
You are paraded around if you have class, but on your own time you can go however you want.

Not a good flight for SNA...but good enough.
Shaggy,
Welcome to the finest fighting force in the world. You'll have dorm-like housing which is pretty nice. The neat thing about NAS Pensacola is the facilities you have access to. Portside seems to be a great hang out - Theater, arcade, chow, and bar - right across the street. The base sports a nice beach down by the lighthouse - though you'd probably be more interested in catching a ride to Pensacola Beach for the good looking single gals instead of NAS campground retirees and old married SNAs that are forbidden to enjoy the sight of good looking single gals. You're going to have a blast. Oh yeah make sure you learn something here too. We're counting on you!

Question for WolfPack02

Why were you in Pensacola for six weeks only during flight training? Just curious because I am hoping to get into flight school and thought you spent a lot of time in Pensacola. Where did you go when you weren't in Pensacola?

Pilots have only a 6week school at NAS pensacola itself. NFOs stay there a long time, SNA's go to whiting 30 mins from P-cola, Corpus, Vance or Moodey.

Why do people say that Whiting is only 30 minutes from NAS Pensacola? API said the same thing, they were WRONG lol.

By the way, this is the best question I've read in a long time, quite a nice change from "Will I make it into OCS?"

Hey man, I live in milton, it takes me about 30 mins to make it to NAS Pensacola, now if you are talking about the beach that is a different story

When did you drive? Middle of the day and there is no way, unless you're doing 20 over.
