For all you guys that have checked into your primary squadron, did you receive per diem for your stay in pcola while on temporary duty ? Just curious since my buddy at Vance (bch you probably know him as the short little hawaiian guy) said he just got 4 grand after he reported to his VT squadron for per diem. He also said you get more per day if you live off base in pcola. Has anybody else recieved this????

i got crap..i got like 630 bucks. the only per diem you get is from when they cut your orders (around the end of API, last week or so) to when you report to primary (so like a week or so of per diem). It also took over a month to get it.

Not sure, but I think the only way to get per diem during API is if your a. Married, and b. have follow on orders other than milton.

I'm not sure how it works for anyone going to Corpus or Whiting, or for anyone that did OCS or ROTC, but I do know that for USNA grads that go to Vance or Moody, you get per diem. How much you get depends on how long you were in pensacola sitting on the beach drinking beer, but in my case that was 7 months so I got about 12 grand (ie over 200 days at 55 dollars a day). I'm at Moody right now, and I know at least 4 or 5 other people who are/were here that got large amounts of per diem too (since the backups down in Pensacola were so freekin long when we were there). And actually not all of them were USNA grads, I know at least one was OCS. I do know though that the reason USNA grads who are pilots get it is b/c our move from Annapolis to Pensacola is not a PCS, ie the gov't doesn't have to pay to move us, so we get screwed on that big time and have to pay outa our own pocket for at least part of the move. I think that's the Navys way of trying to save money. However, the Navy screwed themselves in the end, because we are only supposed to be there for 6 weeks, but the backups down there are so awful that we just hang around for months and months until we start... so in comes the per diem. That problably doesn't help a whole lot b/c the people I've seen get it are base and school specific, but it is out there, trust me...

I didnt receive any per diem, from PSD told us OCS grads were not going to get it. None of my friends that went to OCS and then right to API got it either. Other people with different circumstances may have different results, but I would be cautious getting a lot of per diem from API, you never know when they might realize they screwed up and take it back.

Thanks guys like i said earlier, my buddy (rotc grad) got per diem and hes in Vance now, that seems pretty ridiculous that you wouldnt get it if you go anywhere else (Corpus). Air force training doesn't sound so bad now, well see though, I'll be down there in a week.

IF YOU HAVE THE CHOICE DO NOT GO TO VANCE OR MOODY. Life is so much better in Whiting and Corpus than those places. No stand ups, we do not go into work unless we are scheduled for flight/watch/etc.
