pilot appl and anthros

I submitted my application for pilot in Sept but it wasn’t even considered at the board this Nov. and my recruiter was told this is because my anthro measurements are too small. I meet all the minimum anthro requirements so how am I still too short?

I read several old posts on anthros but didn’t find anyone else with this situation. I also looked at the document with anthro restriction codes for each airframe (NAVAIRINST 3710.9) and it looks like I should fit in the trainers and helos, but I’m too short for jets and cargo planes (which is great since I want to fly helos anyway).

Does anyone have any experience with this? Any suggestions?

(If it helps, my anthros are 62” tall, 32” sitting ht, 37” butt-leg length, 22” butt-knee length, 29” functional reach)

Thanks in advance.

You have to be able to fit into atleast 2 different types. Like helos and jets or helos and cargos. This is what my OSO told me. Im short too and i could fit into all 3

I think that there is a new height supplement called "height max" or something like that. May be worth looking into. just my .005

Obviously at 5'2", that's not going to be an issue for her.

On a slightly related note, how strict are they once you actually get to Pensacola for API? My sitting height was right at the max, but with some careful adjustments I was able to fit into all three types. I've heard that the flight docs are more willing to work with you once you get to that point... any truth to this?

For a while the Navy wasn't doing "single pipeline waivers." Meaning they won't qualify you if you can only do one thing. Not sure if that is the case at the moment. I don't know my measurements off hand (I'm 5'4 on a good day) but it seems odd you wouldn't fit into patrol aircraft (ie P-3). Functional reach is usually most difficult. I'm sure someone has a reference for the current requirements, and your recruiter should have access to that as well- find out what they are and get re-measured if possible.
The flight docs at NASP will work with you, but if you don't fit, there's not much they can do. About the only thing they'll waive is body weight within certain limits for ejection seats.

Don't know about the Navy, but my friend that's also a USMC Phrog pilot didn't fit in anything except helos.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. My recruiter talked to the Program Mgr and you're right - he said they're not looking at applicants who are limited to a single pipeline right now. It’s sitting height that gets me on the P-3, functional reach is ok. So I guess I’ll have to learn to fly helos on the civilian side. In the meantime, I’ve resubmitted my appl for NFO b/c I’d rather work in aviation that what I’m doing now so hopefully I won’t run into the same height issues there…

I'm pretty sure the anthro requirements are the same regardless of designator.

I have a friend who is in the opposite situation (too tall) and he was told he could put in for SNFO, so there either has to be a difference or someone is retarded... or both.

The only difference I could imagine is the multiple platform eligibility requirement, otherwise, anthro is anthro - same seats, cockpits and functional reach requirements.

I think you're right about the multi-platform eligibility b/c I meet the minimums, which are the same for pilot and nfo, but I'm only tall enough to pilot helos and trainers but could be an nfo in almost any aircraft. I guess if you fit in the seat but can't see over the nose of the plane, they'll let you navigate but not fly it.

Well, you'd be anthro'd out of Prowlers for that because you need to see forward just as well as the pilot does, and the ECMO-1 seat is actually set a little lower than the pilot, but both are height adjustable to a certain extent.

I knew two females "anthro'ed" (i dunno how to type it) out of pilot and went on to become FO's. They "said" it was specifically because they couldn't see over the glareshield. Second hand info, but I think it's valid.

(I have a feeling Flash knew one of them in his previous life)

Sorry to thread jack, but any truth to the fact that the Phrog RAG has been closed for like a year, and USMC helo studs are only selecting 53's or the UH1/AH1 route? Heard this from our CO drunk at the Birthday Ball, sorry to threadjack.
