Hello,

I'm slightly confused. I am currently a ground contract in the Marines and have completed PLC Jrs. I am looking to switch to an air contract - pending my eyes getting zapped and a lot of thinking.

I cant seem to get a firm grasp on how the whole process of becoming a pilot works.

OCS - 10/12 Weeks - Quantico, VA
TBS - 6 Months - Quantico, VA
IFS - ?? - ??
Primary - 6 months - Pensacola
Intermediate Helo/Jet/Prop - ?? - ??
Advanced Helo/Jet/Prop - ?? - ??

Is that right? If so, can someone fill in the ??'s for me?

Say, for example, you selected 46s. When do you actually start flying that particular airframe? And when does the time start to tick for your contract?

Thanks.

OCS->TBS->IFS->Primary->Advanced

Intermediate only exists for E2/C2 (Navy only) and I believe Ospreys (Marine only).

At the end of Primary, you choose generic platform... Jet, Helo, Maritime/Props

At the end of Advanced, you choose specific platform... CH-46, F/A-18, etc

I believe Marine and Navy are the same where the time ticker for your aviation contract doesn't start until you get your wings.
