pistol qualification?

:jester_12 Will OCS take my turkey targets from the local university's Army ROTC Turkey Shoot? :jester_12

Do any of the old hats or anyone living in Pcola know the phone number for the small arms range or how to contact the GM1 who runs it? I can't find it in any of the directories. Hit me with a private message if you do and I'd really appreciate it.

Station weapons (not security) runs the range - look for that in the base directory.

If you have the time, go ask the LDO/CWO office (2nd floor NASC Academics (API) building). Sometimes when they're going to the range to qualify the LDO/CWOs they have some extra room and they'll let you tag along.

Qualify with an Italo-Germanic 9mm ??? We had to qualify (or try as someone pointed out) with John Browning's finest AND Smith & Wesson's backup .... :) .... Without the qualification ... you could not be a courier. It used to be a bigger deal than it is today.

If you didn't shoot a qualifying score .... you were marked (by the enlisted men) as a "city boy" or perhaps a homosexual officer. Not that there's anything wrong with that ..... and I didn't say it --- "they" did. :)

I think the better question is, if you qualify on the first time through, can you keep shooting as everyone who sucks at life (and, more importantly, at shooting) does their "do overs"? Or do we have to give the guns back early? :(

When I went to the range at OCS, everyone did it twice. The best score in my OCS class came from a girl who qualified Expert and had never fired a pistol in her life. She outshot a prior enlisted SEAL we had in our class. Crazy stuff.

Not the first time I've seen it happen .... first timers frequently outscore "experienced" pistoleros .... it's something about just sticking to the basics and fundamentals and not trying to prove their ..... "manhood". :)

Females have (believe it or not) a better chance of being better target shooters than men, in controlled situations. They carry around a lot less testosterone than we do, so their hands are normally steadier...and when shooting, jitter counts for a lot.

So therefore, the woman who had not shot before being excellent isn't too terribly surprising.
